Steering wheel install

I searched and didn't find any detailed assistance here for a steering wheel swap so I thought I'd share a few pics of my recent swap.

I used these links for assistance;
http://www.caymanclub.net/reviews/sh...duct=149&cat=3
http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...howtopic=11350

The hole that you put the screwdriver in to release the airbag - if you push a bit, the top pops out, if you push out hard enough, the whole thing pops out;

The bag popped out, you can clearly see the retaining ring in behind the wheel, through the holes;

The links suggest disconnecting the three plugs on the back of the bag, I figured why waste time and unplugged the orange one connecting them all;

I used a T55 with a breaker bar, holding the wheel with the other hand to keep it from turning;

I reversed the process, reconnected the battery and took it for a drive to test centering, then had to pull it off and adjust it to get it right;

I already had an airbag light from swapping my centre console and forgetting to plug the console wire back in, but that’s where this comes in handy; http://www.durametric.com/

I got the wheel, shifter, parking brake and armrest cover from Suncoast (before Porsche raised the prices);
http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/me...ry_Code=997alc

I got the console via ebay but it's available from Suncoast or Bumperplugs AFAIK. It's a time consuming process to swap it the first time (I removed mine first to put in a short shifter then the 2nd time to change to the painted one). I used this link to assist with my console swap;

http://www.caymanclub.net/reviews/sh...php?product=13

There are a few 'tricks' I used to help with the difficult parts of the removal. First was removing the shiftknob. After twisting the plastic lock at the base of the ****, some suggest pulling with a LOT of force (which is risky given that when one guy's **** finally came off, he smashed it into his windshield, cracking it). I locked a set of vise grips around the metal shaft, just below the plastic lock at the base of the ****, then use a set of needle nose to lever off of the vise grips and slowly raise the **** off. Worked perfectly and easily.

Then was the T20 screw that's partially hidden under the centre of the dash - I bought an extra T20 screwdriver, put the end of it in a vise and bent it 45 degrees so I could unscrew it without drilling through the blocking plastic as some have done or removing most of the main console. It just takes a couple minutes longer.

And finally, the first time I didn't unplug the console wire from the dash, but instead unplugged it from each lighter recepticle, alarm sensor, airbag warning light, etc. from underneath. This is NOT the best way and took way too much time and aggravation. If you unscrew the carpet triangle using a T30, you then have access to the 2 T20's that hold the passenger main console side panel on. Take those off then just pull the panel back towards the back of the car (there are 3 clips holding it in), then wiggle it down to completely remove it and you can reach in and unplug the centre console wire from the dash. (sorry, no pics)

Great pics. The shift **** really is HARD to get off. I smacked myself in the forehead after it finally came loose from the shifter..
