Is the PSE HACK worthwhile ?

I took my mufflers off this week to put on bypass pipes, but they are way too loud.

I want something louder than my stock 997S mufflers but not as loud as the bypass pipes.

Is the PSE hack a good compromise?

Should I go with a 2" pipe?

Will I have any issues with my warranty?

I found this picture from another member is this the best way to do it?

Ask Raffi- IIRC he had this on his 997S before switching to Fabspeed, then to AfterHours pipes. I'm sure there are a number of members here who have done it.

Some love the PSE hack, others don't. It's all personal preference, there is no perfect muffler for everyone. I think the hack sounds too raspy and choppy myself, plus there is no performance gain or weight savings.

If you mod your stock mufflers, then of course it would void the warranty of that part.

Since you are in SoCal, sign up over at www.pcars.us - Go to some of the local Cars & Coffee meets, check out the mufflers on other members cars. See what appeals to you.

No question the PSE hack is worth it. You can have the sound of a $2,200 item for $150 and some time on your par.

It is VERY easy to buy a set of 997 mufflers to perform the surgery on.

if you guys are interested I have a set of mufflers off of my old 997 for free. As well as headers and cats all off my base 997. Not selling just cleaning out the garage and would like them to go to a good home. Let me know if anyone is interested I would prefer pick up but I guess I could ship them if I have to.

- There you go Mobonic, you could try this out at relatively low cost. IIRC the 997 muffler exit pipe is slightly smaller in diameter at the end than the 997S exit pipe, so you may need to use some sort of shim to attach the S tips tightly.

From a cost perspective Gundo has a really good point- Although some of the more sport-designed aftermarket mufflers will also add some performance and weight savings. My personal experience opinion on the best-bang-for-buck buys are Agency Power and AfterHours. Both sound really good and are under a grand, and per my experiences with them they both improved HP on my 996.
AP's are about 2x as loud as stock and open up after about 500 miles or so, no real resonance to speak of, adds slight off-idle vibration to cabin (every car may be different in this respect). Slight weight savings.
AH's are about 2x as loud at idle / cruise, 80% of bypass pipes at WOT, and open up after about 500 miles. Some resonance in cabin at around 3200k, no vibration at all due to incorporated flex section (smooth as stock). Big weight savings.

I have a hack. There is definite a nice tone to the exhaust. It is definitely not too loud to irritate my kids or wife. It sound wuite amazing above 3500 rpm. I had it done by FisterD (6speed member). He did a great job. used stainless steel pipe and weld. and polished to a nice finish.
