Can a 997S engine be replaced with a 997 GT3 engine?

Question: Can a 997S engine be replaced with a 997 GT3 engine?

If you had to replace the engine in a 997S coupe, could you replace it with a 997 GT3 engine?

If so would it be a direct replacement or not?

If you could, What other parts would have to be replaced?

Has anyone done something like this?

BTW I know that the 997S is a wet sump motor and the GT3 is a dry sump ... I'm just wondering if and how it could be done.

For enough money one can even turn a Turbo into a Gt3 . A 996 into a 997 . A dog into a cat --gotcha !!

All kidding side --it's probably less expensive to just buy the Gt3.

You guys are being serious . Do you have any idea how much it would take change the motor , the exhaust layout, the alignment , suspension, and place the proper aerokit to accomodate this ? The labor alone would cost hours of time.

I am not that serious I ended up 'Charging" mine !
But just would be neat to know.
I am not thinking the whole package but rather "JUST" the motor!

Here's a forum member who somehow really figured oit how to change a 997tt and fit it to a Gt3 RS body . These types of extreme makeovers pop up on the 997tt forum every now and then so I think Mobonic's question is fair game but this type of thinghas got to be really high priced . https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-pictures.html

Mobonic/Stacy,

I think it is going to be a huge undertaking, the electronics alone would be a nightmare. If you want a GT3, sell your C2S, and buy the GT3. The C2S and the GT3 are two totally different cars except for the body panels.

It looks like from what i have read that a GT3 engine would be $20-50K .... so I guess it would not be worth it.

It just seemed logical that if you had to get a new engine.... might as well buy the best you can get .... but there is a big difference between a new 997S engine @ $7100 and a new GT3 engine at reportedly $45K

If someone blows an engine and the motor is replaced I think the guideliness are very specific that it must be the same type. Here's an example of a motor replacement in a 997tt . https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...180-miles.html

In fact there are easier engines to swap than a GT3 into a 997S yet I have never heard of an upgrade with minimal cost .

Talked with porsche and it looks like it can not be done for less than just buying a used 997 GT3.

Are you going to buy one? Keep in mind that if the car is a daily driver the Gt3 might pose some snags but isn't impossible .

Saw this
which lead me to searching for 997 gt3 engines, just to see how much you can get them for.

Nothing much coming up on a Google search so I’m guessing they’re pretty rare.

Okidoki, just watched that video. Having done a 996 turbo engine swap to 996.1 Carrera chassis it all looked so familiar.
Financially swaps like these are questionable, unless one finds donor engine/transmission reasonably priced and can do (most of) the work at own garage. OTH this kind of hotrodding has been done since the beginning of motoring and if the owner is happy with the outcome, it's worth ever penny invested.
I wouldn't do another turbo engine swap, but GT3 engine related one sounds interesting. Maybe going over the top with a 4.0l conversion plus Dundon headers etc in a 997 C2 chassis would be a perfect sleeper...
EDIT: 997.2 C4S PDK w/ 4.0l GT3 engine, what a daily driver would that be!

Why not get the 3.8 bored out to 4.0 by a reputable porsche engine builder?
