997 PCM Question - Telephone Module

If a car has the phone icon and that little slot for the SIM card, does that mean it has the telephone package? If not, what would it cost to add?

The icon and slot do not mean the module is installed. I don't know what it would cost to install, but I would think it would be much preferable to install a 3rd party bluetooth device, as fiddling with SIM cards is a PITA.

I have the module in my car, and it's useless. Nobody can hear me over the engine noise. Get a good ear piece or the parrot.

I talked with dealership about installing the module. I have the same setup as you. They quoted me almost 2000 dollars for module, fiber optic cable, and 8 hours labor. Just did not feel it was worth it to make that little slot work. Will either go with a tooki or the like; or just use my headset.

I have the Nav TV Tooki kit bought from Eric at Bumperplugs. I am very satisfied with it. Easy install too!

i actually like the module. i bought a pay as you go plan for the sim card, plopped it in and now my car has it's own cell number. the sound quality is actually pretty clear no gripes here.

I have the Tooki and like it quite a bit; very integrated operation with the PCM. The OEM telephone module requires a separate SIM card (and number) for the car, or that the SIM card from your regular cell phone be inserted into the slot every time you use it. Very impractical. Sound quality with the Tooki is OK.

How long did the install take? I'm thinking Tooki as well.

I had a stereo shop install mine, I think they took about 1.5 hours to do the total install.

I believe it took me about 30 min. The trickiest part was removing the PCM since it was my fist time doing so. Now getting it out is a snap. Once the PCM is out it's pretty much plug 'n play from there. I did upgrade the mic for a smaller and better quality type. Got the new mic from www.soundprofessionals.com.

Matt
