fixing a cat cel - 02 sensor question

hi guys,

I have a consistent cel thrown by my awe cats (can't remember the number, but it references BANK 2). Today i built a sensor 'spacer' with autozone parts and installed it on one side of the exhaust system. Got the idea here

The question i have is, if you are standing at the back of the car looking at the engine, are the sensors furthest to the right 'BANK 1' or 'BANK 2'? (my cel reads out that BANK 2 has the problem)

I guessed 'furthest to the right' was Bank 2, cleared the cel, will see if it comes back. Wondering if anyone has the real info.

if my spacer doesn't work, i will try this one:

http://yhst-1918367471896.stores.yahoo.net/oxsesp.html

pretty sure the blackforest one (above) is targeted at VWs. are the o2 sensors on my 997 the same size as VWs?

thanks, hope i was understandable!

I have the FVD spacer, and they are used on the second O2 sensor to reduce the amount of flow between the two sensors. They have been in my car for 4 months and no a with it since.

Bara, a CEL is not a big deal, it only tells you that something isn't functioning with in the defined parameters. In the case of the Cats, the amount of air moving between the two O2 sensors is greater then the allowance defined by the computer. Resetting the CEL light can be done by the deal or anyone with Durmetric software. I had thrown the CEL light four times before I installed the extensions. I beleive the cats that don't throw CEL have the second O2 sensor further away from the normal position. The theroy of the higher flowing cats should tell you that the air will move with less resistance.

Ed, how did you clear your CEL. isnt taking it to the dealer for that risking your warranty?

bara, you can clear a cel in 30 seconds with a cheap ODB2 reader from ebay or amazon (about $35), it's just annoying to have to do it so I am trying to find a permanent fix. The FVD spacers are 80 or 90 each, i am a cheepskate so trying this to see if it works.

do you have the 200 or 300 awe cats? i have been told the 300 are far less likely to trip a code.

thanks for the tip, i hope i dont have to buy one

I have AWE 200 cell cats with no CEL issue since installed about 6 months ago. I believe most issues were related to the early AWE cats that were being produced. If you have the HJS cats that AWE has been using for a while now, I believe there is likely to be an issue.

I have had the AWE cats for about 10 months and had the CEL go off once, which I cleared with a handheld scanner. If it starts setting off my CEL frequently I definitely wouldn't be happy as it is advertised as not setting it off. I have a question if they are setting of the CELs wouldn't that be considered false advertisement on AWEs part?

I take my car to an Indy, they use the durametric.

Dealer has only seen my car to deactivat the factory side airbags (durametric can't switch them off).
