Looking to add a rear spoiler

I just received my beautiful new HRE P40's and had them fitted a couple of days ago thanks to my wonderful wife I'm now looking to finish off the car externally by adding a rear wing.

I notice there are a few GT3 replica wings out there for quite a considerable reduction in price over the official aerokit wings. In terms of construction and durability, how do these aftermarket wings hold up compared to the OEM?

I'm a big fan of the GT3 look or even the GT2 wings but with so much choice out there, I'm not entirely sure what to pick! Am I best off going with the OEM aerokit wing or saving a few pennies and going elsewhere? If so, which ones tend to get the better reviews by people here?

I know this question has been asked 101 times but thanks for your help

In my opinion, the GT3 wing (version 997.1) sits a little too far back on the car. For that reason, I prefer the GT2 style wings sold by Misha and others. In person, they look fantastic. Additionally, the GT2 style wings look alright with the standard front bumper, whereas the GT3 wings look best balanced by adding a GT3 front bumper.

Ok, another question if you don't mind .

I know that with all of the above wings I'm going to get a new decklid to go with the wing, however, the standard "S" decklid is metal. I'm going to assume that Misha etc are all fiberglass or equivalent and not metal?

Is the OEM Aerokit one metal?

I really do like the GT2M wing, so similar to the 996 GT2 we had a few years back.

Most OEM and aftermarket wings do not replace the entire lid, just the variable spoiler. Meaning, your metal which has the make (Carrera S logo, etc.) remains in tact, and you are simply swapping out the plastic spoiler flap that extends at speeds with an aftermarket piece which is stationary. This is true in almost all cases.

Alex,
Please PM me the cost as well. As I mentioned, I'm looking for a ducktail for my car. I have spoken to the MAShaw folks, hoping to hear from Misha, but this is a new one. In all cases, the concern I have which I cannot seem to confirm, is whether there is any issue with this spoiler type and the moving cowl mechanism on my cab.

My vote is the Techart Type 3, just looks and sits just right.

I personally would not do the GT2 or Aero Kit style wing unless you compliment it by adding the GT3 style front as well. Both those wings are pretty aggressive in relation to the OEM front bumper.

For the $, I'd do a replica Aero Kit front bumper and wing. The look is perfect for the 997.

VERDE and CATTMAN..You both mention that you want the ducktail spoiler look. The Rinspeed Indy is a candidate but is very expensive and not (in my opinion) as dead on as the much more reasonable Getty 997 ducktail. Check their on line catalog... @$780. (Particularly relevant today considering Porsche AG is putting this retro look on the most expensive 911 to date - the Sport Classic)
