PCM Scuff Mark

I have a small scuff mark right above the volume button on my PCM (paint has actually come off). Anyone know of a good way to 'patch' this up?

I like the idea of painting the entire front panel thru bumperplugs (black looks great), but frankly, it seems like too much work to get the panel and individual buttons off, and I'd have to paint the entire console + ac vents to match.

I've read somewhere that the front panel is not a separate part that you can order.

Any good ideas would be appreciated. Sorry for the camera phone pic. I'll try to get a decent one up if it would help.

Thanks!

I would live with it . The only part of my car which hasn't been taken apart is the PCM . That scuff mark seems insignificant compared to a rattle in the dash (upon fixing it).

The interior finishes on these cars suck.

The soft rubber like texture on the center console etc, is so delicate. Didn't realize the grey plastic bits were also so fragile.

My 2001 GMC interior has held up much better and the surface finish quality is not much different than my 997.

I will say that my wifes 2008 Cayenne S has a much better interior detail.

I totally agree with you. My temperature and fan control buttons are stripping off. Anyone know where you can just purchase those buttons alone?? Any help will be much appreciated.

My ac rubber coated buttons had a couple scuffs on them with the white showing thru. I just used a sharpie to hide it and it looks fine from your normal viewing distance.

Had the same thing. Dealer replaced under warranty and the new control buttons seem to be more durable.

Thanks for the idea. The car is still under warranty but this is more of a cosmetic issue, so I doubt that the dealer would replace a ~$2500 part for normal wear... As mentioned, the front panel is not a separate part that one can order, so they'd have to replace the entire pcm unit.

Are there issues with rattling for people that have disassembled their PCM faceplate?

The mark is actually a bit worse than it is in the picture - I could live with it, but if there was a relatively easy fix, I thought I'd give it a shot.

That's great news! Can I ask which dealer you went to? I'm in the SM area as well.

I suppose the AC console plate is a cheaper part than the pcm unit, but worth a try.

I have had several cosmetic issues fixed under warranty, fan & temp control, plastic around the key hole, and a few places in the full leather interior. It seems these things really depend on your dealer, and whether or not you have a good advocate there.

If you're interested in having it painted by BumperPlugs, I'd go for it. I recently dismantled the lower part of my center stack (all of the HVAC buttons) while replacing my center console. It went right back together nicely with no rattles. And I wouldn't like looking at that mark long term.

Now you got me curious. About a year ago when I thought of changing mine (on my Turbo) it was discussed in the Turbo forum that PCM plate removal wasn't that easy . I never even asked further because the guys who were talking about it were generally knowlegable on interior upgrades .

Did you take out the center stack ?

Unfortunately, it appears that it is still difficult to remove the PCM plate. Take a look at this thread:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-interior.html

It'll take some patience and DIY spirit. Annnnd it isn't cheap to get it painted, especially the entire center stack.
