Wanted to ask the forum for help valuing a 997 C2S. Your input would be greatly appreciated. The car is:
- Located in Northern California
- CPO'd, with 2 owners, title in hand
- 2006 997 C2S, Meteor over Full Black Leather
- 26k miles
- Sport Chrono, Adaptive Sport Seats, Bose, 19' Lobsters

Thanks for your help!

I've been looking at the 2006 997S market for months now. Depending on how badly they need to sell it, you could possible get it for a low 50's price. If it's a tip you could maybe go even lower. The mileage is actually perfect, for me anyway. This car has possibly been on the road for up to 4 years now and if so, it averages out to only 6500 miles a year. It appears to be nicely optioned, especially with the full leather. Good luck with it!
26k miles is still rather low mileage considering 2009 is almost to an end (car is ~4 yrs old). If you do the math, (26,000/4)/12, the car is driven approx 542 miles a month and is definately a weekend car.
Get a DME scan which will justify whether you should pay more or less for the car.

You can get the DME scan through any Porsche dealer. So in your case, since the car is in NorCal and you're not, you have to ask the seller if he's willing to pull the DME scan at a dealer.
The DME scan will basically show you how the car was driven and how many times it hit redline etc.

The DME scan should be part of a normal PPI, but many dealers won't do it or don't know about it unless you ask. Search the threads here to learn about overrevs and what the DME output means. Also be sure to have a paint inspection to see if there is any bodywork. Porsche owners can be ****, so even if the hood was resprayed for rock chips, it can affect the resale value down the road.
Price seems on target for an S. You might be able to get a little less mileage for only a couple more bucks, but having a CPO from a PP is a plus. How much longer on the CPO? This is pretty rare - shows that the current owner hasn't had the car very long. Be sure to see if you believe the story for the short ownership. Good luck!

I believe the OEM warranty expires November 2009 so the CPO would be +2 to Nov 2011. I'll definitely ask for the DME readout. How can you determine that the current owner hasn't had the car very long?
This thread will help understand DME (post 17 and 27 ) https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ver-rev-2.html
The 52K ask price is in lower end of the range on a CPO car. Have you driven the car ? Have you requested to see all service records ? What options doesn't it have that you want?
Have you inspected the car's paint for overspray , or gaps ? Have you looked at the tailpipe for soot ? If you saw the car at the private owner's home .. any drops of oil on his garage floor ? Is the interior well kept ? Does the owner sound like he cared about his car? Age and maturity level of the owner ? Smoker or non smoker?
So many questions and when I see a price that looks pretty good .. that when I start asking them.

Valuation? A lot cheaper in a couple of months. We're entering a period of seasonal decline for sports cars, and 997S's are already breaching the high 40s. If you have the patience you should be able to save a few k.
One exception to this advice is if you are searching for a hard to find color, like Cobalt. In that case I would jump on the car, and even pay a premium because there are likely several other buyers competing with you for it. However, with gray you will have a good supply all winter long and beyond.

If your open to traveling a bit you might check out this car. Quite the deal if its clean. No affiliation.

Carfax will provide DMV activity such as change of ownership. Also might show issues if provided by dealers, repair shops.
Such a good deal !

Overall the car is optioned just the way I'd like it. Have not seen it in person yet as it's a bit of a drive (SF to Sacramento) but I'm thinking to go see the car this weekend. There does seem to be a bit of premature / careless wear and tear on the interior trim. Some scuffing / damage to the leather, beat up ash tray door, and AC switch worn out. A little odd for such a low-mileage weekend only car.
That being said, sounds like the price is pretty fair as of right now? I'll report back when I've had a look at 'er.

$52.5K is a good deal provided there are no immediate major service required, such as tire/brake/clutch replacement. I agree you must get a PPI and base your decision on the DME readout.
Good luck!
