997.2 Mulit-Function Wheel upgrade....probs?
997.2 Mulit-Function Wheel upgrade....probs?
Like a few others on this board I purchased the multi-function upgrade kit from Suncoast for the great price of $199. Went to my dealer and had several things installed at the same time:
1. Multi-function upgrade
2. Voice-recognition
3. PCM 3.0 software update
When I picked up the car all seemed fine. The multi-function wheel is really cool and works/looks good. However when I went to re-link my phone to the PCM blu-tooth (the PCM update wiped out the prior information) I was not able to make the phone link up. Today I took it to the dealer and they tried for an hour and even re-flashed the PCM...but I am still not able to complete the blu-tooth link. The car sees the phone and the phone sees the car but when you pair them you get a "successful registration" message on the PCM and then a phone icon with a slash through it indicating the phone is not working.
The dealer hooked my car up to their computer and saw no faults but they did see that the car is not seeing the multi-function as installed. Now all of the functions work on the multi-function wheel (except for the phone commands....) but the computer does not see it. I asked and confirmed that they coded my car for the multi-function wheel when it was installed and actually watched them do it again today....but it still shows as not installed on the computer. The service manager fears that there may be a missing piece of equipment for the multi-function wheel (control unit?) and he is concerned that this may have some impact on the PCM's ability to see and link with my phone. He was not sure and by no means was trying to lay off blame on the M-F part.
Has anyone had this happen to them? Has anyone had the PCM update and then lost functionality? Does anyone have the same combination (PCM3.0, Hands Free, and Multi-function) that I do?
Thanks for your thoughts.

I have what you have except the voice recognition, and I did the install myself and had dealer activate the function. Mine work and no issue with blue tooth pairing and functioning through either the PCM or the MF steering wheel. There are no other part needed for the MF steering plate; just the plate you received from Suncoast. I would assumed your dealer didn't program the PCM properly. You should call Suncoast tomorrow and have the parts guy speak to the technician about your problem. I would bet Suncoast tech will have an answer for you.

I agree with John. Incorrect programming. Lucky you had them do the install because now its your dealers responsibility to fix the problem. If your dealer even hinted the idea that there might be another control module missing, no doubt they wouldve blamed an inadequate install had you done it.
Tricky
I got a new 2010 PDK-style wheel for my 09' 6 speed, bought and installed at the dealer. No buttons work in the wheel. No heat, no mf buttons. It lights up and the horn works, but that's it. My BT phone was not affected, but I did loose the audio option in the menu for the central display?
Suncoast suggested that my dealer check to see if the steering wheel control switch is burnt out? Maybe something shorted out in your car?
There is not that much information out there regarding retrofits and upgrades and known issues. It's trial and error.
Good luck,

I did that PCM upgrade also - a good while after my MF Wheel was installed. Frankly, I cannot tell that it did anything - the list of "fixes" were problems I did not have. I am thankful that it didn't make anything worse.

MF and Bluetooth work fine apart from the occassional disconnect. If that happens the PCM just says it cant see the phone but generally turning bluetooth off/on on the phone and the PCM works.

I had that problem the other evening. The car refused to take the X off my phone. Took the battery out of the phone to reset it - nothing. Next morning all was good. Computers.
Thanks for the all the Tips
I tried the battery re-set this morning and still got the "you got no phone man" ICON.
Thanks for all of your suggestions.....back to the dealer I go......
