Finally pics of my 1 week old 07' 911 C4S with Pioneer Avic-Z110BT Lots of Pics!
Make sense?
The car would come from the factory with the speaker wires going from PCM to stock amp to speakers. What you will do is remove the PCM, use the power from the new head unit and bypass the existing stock amp (remove the speaker wires from the amp and connect the wires to the head unit on one side and speakers on the other). You dont need to physically remove the amp, just bypass it.
ok so stock speakers are NOT powered by the PCM HU, there is a separate amp. Where is this amp? near the PCM HU?
The last car I did had an amp sitting all the way at the back of the car, so I just ran wire directly to each speakers. But that requires taking apart door panels, which I'm not about to do with my P-car.

I posted my experience in another thread, just now. Thanks for the reminder. See: Kenwood DNX-9960 Mod
Hi everyone,
This is my first post. I am the lucky owner of a 997 Phase 1 with PCM but no GPS nor phone. Looking at the amazing installations I will have an aftermarket radio installed.
I have read several posts but did not find any info about the compatibility of the aftermarkets installs and:
- Wheel commands (volume etc)
- Dashboard mini screen to display radio station etc
The last Alpine INE-S900R says it is:
Steering Wheel Remote Control Ready
Vehicle Sub-display Ready
http://www.alpine-electronics.co.uk/...ine-s900r.html
Compatible with Porsche?
Any model known for being compatible?
Thanks
Olivier

i'm considering the same... from what i understand, all general PCM functionality will still be there, u will just access it through the guage display right in front of you (mileage, odometer, stopwatch if you have it, tpms if you have it, etc.) the only thing you lose is some additional functionality with the trip function (continuous, hh:mm, etc.) that you can select on the actual pcm screen. every other function would be replaced with the new unit (sound control, navi, map, etc.)
BUT, if you have the Sport Chronos feature your stopwatch will still work but you can no longer review your lap times after the fact. The lap time appear in the window below the tach for 4 seconds. It would be stored in the head unit for later review but you will lose that.
I put in a Kenwood 8120. My guy made a custom bezel and put the XM and GPS antennae on the dash at the base of the windshield. Both of these things could have been done better.
I highly recommend the aftermarket products. It is a toss-up between the latest Kenwood and Pioneer systems as far as I can tell. Just make sure you buy the bezel from the guy at Euromotorsports and have them run the antennae under the plastic in FRONT of the windshield so you don't have to see it.
The existing amp is wired with fiberoptics so it can't be used except as described by the guy who found the RCA plug that allowed the amp to power the subwoofer.
The new unit has 4 channels at 50watts per channel which is adequate but not great. If your audiophile days are behind you (like me) you may not want to spend the extra money.
If you really want it to sound good you will take out the old amp, speakers, and subwoofer and put in new gear. I'm guessing another grand or so installed.
The benefit to leaving the old speakers and amp in there is that it can all be put back to stock easily (don't ask me why anyone would want to go back to stock.)
Quick question. How does
Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT 7" In-Dash Double-Din Navigation CD/DVD/MP3 with Pandora iPhone streaming compare to Z110?
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...ms/AVIC-Z120BT
I presume this is the updated model? Will this work as well? Thanks!

Great job - congrats ! - can you please tell me how the quality of phone calls is ? did you end up using the original builtin microphone or had to run a new one - do you hear any echo or other problems with the bluetooth phone ?
Thanks
Thanks
Hey Guys,
2 newbie questions:
1) OP you said your on a lease but still installed a new head unit. Do you have experience with how leasing companies see that on return? are you planing on putting the stock PCM back in?
2) you said you got a loaner while you wait for your Car to arrive. is that a standard? I was told If I custom order one it will take 8 weeks from germany and there was NO word of a loaner in that time

That's the one thing that is horrible!
I would say 99% of my calls people have trouble hearing me.
