Lol, what I mean is do you the Euro MotorSpeed's kit to hook up the AVIC to the car? That kit also has the bezel included but has some other wiring harness. Do we need those harnesses to hook up the HU to the car?

No, unless you are planning on using the Bose amp. If so, there is a wiring block that makes the install easier, but you dont NEED it. The bezel is really the only thing you need. All the wires are included with the head unit.

I sent you a PM.

Thanks,

Steve

Ahhhhh! Got it. thanks! Why would anyone hook it up to the Bose amp? Won't the sound quality be better if its hooked up the HU?

Ooops, I am sorry, I meant if you BYPASS the Bose amp and use the power from the head unit then using the wiring block from Euromotorspeed will make the install easier...I had it backwards...my bad!

BTW, using an external amp will work even better (but more $$$, of course). And then, again, you dont need anything but the bezel...

Sorry for the confusion ( I must be having a blond moment).

So what would be better? Hooking it up to the HU amp or Bose amp? I think i read somewhere that you hook up the speakers to the HU amp and sub to Bose amp is a good set up. Not looking to get another amp right now. Maybe down the road I will get an aftermarket amp.

Okay, I'm quite confused. lol

With this HU, what do I need to install it? Does the HU come with all the wiring needed to hook it up with the car? I am not planning on adding an aftermarket amp right now. So do I still need the wiring harness from Euro Motorspeed? I am guessing NO.

So without the harness, the speakers will still be powered from the HU correct? And the sub will be powered from the Bose amp. If i am understanding this right, the harness from Euro MotorSpeed is needed if one decides to get an aftermarket amp.

Bah....someone please clarify

Best, external amp for both speakers and sub

Next, external amp for speakers, Bose amp for subs

Next, head unit amp for speakers and Bose amp for subs

Last, Bose amp for speakers, Bose amp for subs.

Mine is head unit for speakers and Bose for subs...Its fine for my purposes. I am no audiophile, nor is the car quiet enough IMHO to warrant a better stereo system and I mostly listen to talk radio, podcasts or comedy. Very little music.

Your needs may be different.

Good luck,

Steve

PS: To hook up the head unit to the Bose speaker amp requires a $650.00 interface piece. So, it is the worst and very expensive. To hook up the head unit to the Bose sub amp requires RCA cables, very cheap and simple.

Yes, everything out of the box is all you need to hook up the head unit. But, you still need a bezel.

To make the install EASIER, you can use the harness from Euromotorspeed. It is NOT necessary, but helpful. The harness he is selling is so you can bypass the Bose amp and connect the wiring easily from the head unit to the speakers without cutting off the molex plug that connects the Bose amp to the speakers.

So, it will allow you to connect the speaker wires that are coming out of the head unit (that are already amplified) to the molex plug that connects the Porsche speakers to the Bose amp without cutting off the molex plug. This is the ONLY thing that it does for you.

Again, you can do the entire install without any of the wiring harnesses or wiring that Euromotorspeed is selling along with his bezel. It only makes the install easier as you dont have to cut off a plug. You will still need to solder onto the wiring harness though.

You will only need RCA cables if you want to use an external amp and you still need RCA cables to connect the sub out of the head unit to the input of the Bose sub amp.

I like the black floor mats .... they break up all the brown and add a custom look...

Nice car....

I'm going upstairs right now to see if my black mats have arrived yet... I'm doing the same thing you did....

so let me get this straight, the stock HU powers the stock speakers? so we can use the existing wires from the stock HU for speaker connection, without running new wires to each stock speakers? I always thought all the speakers are ran by some external amps.

If that's the case, this should be a super easy install!

By the way do you need to position the GPS antenna somewhere? What about radio antenna? are the stock plug compatible?

I've written an installation post on MBworld for adding stock navigation to a Mercedes MOST fiber system. Never wanted to tackle this on the Porsche since I thought un-revertable mods were needed. If I can use the optional harness for this install, I'd be able to revert it to stock form if I ever want to sell the car. If I do attempt this, I'd document the whole install and post a DIY tutorial. But that won't be until I finish my other projects...

So much stuff to do, so little time...

Yeah, no need to rewire anything or even use resistors. Straight wiring from the HU to the existing Porsche speakers (Bose or non), doesn't matter. Just bypass the existing amp.

Antenna plug needs to be adapted to European...any high end auto stereo shop has the adapter. It may actually come with some head units.

GPS antenna and XM or whatever goes under the plastic cover next to the windshield wipers (as they do with the stock one). Its out of sight and works perfectly there.

And yes, you can revert it back to stock, but why would you???

Oo, if you need an extra pair of hand I would love to help you and learn some things about the Porsche. I live in Irvine too!

Wait, there is an existing amp? or are you talking about the amp within the HU?
