Another Exhaust Question?

Well I finally purchased my dream ... 09 997c2s back in October. The car is a weekend recreational vehicle that will drive 3 or 4 k per year. The car is amazing, however I am not crazy about the exhaust note or the dull tips. I have done alot of research on line and watched alot of videos. I am looking for a throatier sound thats civilized in normal driving and more aggressive at heavy throttle. So far I am leaning towards AWE Mufflers or Cargraphic mufflers. The problem is I am not willing to buy something based on a video. Does anybody have first hand knowledge of any drone or other issues with these two setups? Thanks!

From what I've heard Cargraphic system is top notch. But you will pay some $$. I would recommend the Gundo hack but not sure how that plays on the newer 997's.

I have the AWE exhaust on my 09 Carrera. I love it, quiet at cruise but comes to life at full throttle! ZERO DRONE, very high quality. They manufacture their exhausts in house too. It sounds right for the the car.

Rocket911,

Thank you for considering us.

We spend considerable time working on mufflers that will not overpower you or your passenger when driving.

A core company philosophy is develop exhaust systems that are quiet when they need to be, but loud when you want them to be.

Meaning, no drone and zero resonance in the cabin. However, when you go wide open throttle, we want things to sound similar to a Porsche factory Cup Car.

All this while still being able to speak on a cell or handsfree along with tip toeing through your quiet neighborhood and not waking the neighbors.

If you would like to talk further or come down for a shop tour, please email me directly.

Look forward to meeting you.

Can't speak for a 997.2, but I have the full AWE exhaust (headers, cats, mufflers) on my 997.1 and I couldn't be happier. Just like the OP, I wasn't really happy with the stock exhaust note on my car. Since my car is a Cab, I wanted to make sure that I also didn't go to loud and definitely not loud in normal slow drives through neighborhoods. After listening in person to a few set-ups, AWE was the perfect sound for me. Almost normal at lower RPM's but the perfect growl when I open it up. I could not be happier with the sound and according to my installers, AWE quality is one of the best.

I think the most important thing is for you to listen to as many systems as possible in person. Find a couple of shops in your area that work on Porsche's and ask if they have installed any aftermarket exhausts and if their customers would be willing to have you get a listen. I've brought my car out to my installers a few times to let some prospective customers take a listen. You also might want to check with the local car/Porsche clubs in your area.

Rocket,
Have you considered the Tubi Style Exhaust? It's available in two ways.
(1) Side Muffler replacement
(2) Side Mufflers and center muffler bypass ( more common solution for ideal sound )

Please contact one of our experienced sale consultants for more details.

sidenote:

the techart tip u have looks like there is only one exhaust outlet even though there are two tips per side.. i never realized that..

i dont' suppose it affects performance.. but i m a bit disappointed cause i wanted a set of TA tips.. but whats the point of two tips if they are both not being used..

Champion...do you have a picture of the side muffler replacement? Is it the mufflers only or the mufflers and cats?
Thanks

I was having the same problem at first on my 997.1 C4. I live in a very quiet neighborhood and do not want any unwanted attention, so I hooked up with Bryan at RSS and found the cargraphic system to be very satisfying. At first hand, it was a little loud driving home, especially at 2k to 4k when accelerating, but one you reach your speed, the noise is completely gone. I like it because it has no drone inside the cabin. It's only noticable when you punch it. The sound is agressive at start up as well. I think when you are in doubt, buy the best you can afford. Those Parts are expensive for a reason.

You won't regret w/ Cargraphic.
