Bad karma for my 997.2

My last two trips to Seattle have been disastrous for my 997.2. Two weeks ago my front windshield had a crack as a result of a flying rockchip. This needed replacement. It was $100.00 over my $1000.00 deductible and I decided to pick up the full tab rather than submit a claim with my insurance for $100.00. I took this in a good stride and in fact even thought to myself that this is nature's way of getting back to me for having wrapped my full car with ventureshield.

But what happened yesterday was quite devastating (to some extent). It could have been a lot worse if not for the ventureshield clearbra protection. I was coming out of the parking lot from Griots garage's grand opening
(https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ml#post2865551) and I had to pause at the traffic roundabout at the entrance. Much to my chagrin and disbelief a lexus LS 430 backed right onto my rear bumper and scraped it. He even had parking sensors and kept pulling out of his parking space as I helplessly witnessed this incident. As much as I was devastated at the outcome, I was also surprised how well the film protected most of the bumper (unbelievable) except for a tiny oval 1 x 1.2 cm area where the paint has completely lifted off (that too due to the film the borders of the paintless area look very smooth and even) exposing a plasticky feeling black area. The owner of the Lexus admitted his mistake and gave me all his insurance/agent info. I am hoping the bumper can be salvaged. Can it ? The bumper has absolutely no dents or dings. The film has lifted off in several spots but paint and texture of metal is pristine underneath in these spots. I just cannot bear the idea of a respray on the entire bumper or change of bumper since the bumper I guess will not have factory paint...right ?? Do you think they can spray just this small area ?? How well do you think it will merge with the rest of the paint? Or is it better to have the bumper changed completely. Benjamin (metropolitan detail) did a great job on the install and I have to see him first to remove the clear-bra. Needless to say, these things only happen on the weekend and the wait as expected for Monday would be painful for me (and my family as they cannot bear to see me going back and forth to the garage to agonize at the sight of this). I only slept for three hours last night. Needless to say my wife is working on Feng Shui'ng the 997.2.

I need some consolation, hence this post.

Amar: It is very unfortunate as people these days are careless maneuvering in parking lots. As per your description I imagine that your rear bumper needs no replacement and may even be corrected (by a competent body shop) with some local spraying and blending.

Re your windshield cost - I think that the 'comprehensive' part of your insurance should cover that and it usually has very small deductibles.

I don't know about the bumper repairs, however I will say that it is just a car, it will get (big or small) damaged. The good news about this one is that it won't cost you any money out of your pocket to get it fixed.

BTW drove through your city yesterday, I doubt there are too many Porsche's there, the locals seemed to be in awe of the ones that they saw in the caravan.

Adias: I had a $1000.00 deductible even on the comprehensive. Hence I fixed it myself. Northvan: Just about 2 or 3 997's (only one 997.2) a 964, a couple 911 targa's, quite a few boxters. Still not much for a population of around 65K.

That is not a lot for the city.

Do you happen to live in the houses high up the hill over looking the city/highway?

This really sucks and I empathize with anyone who makes the effort to care for his car only have have it taken away in a careless moment by another driver . Perhaps the economy has many people preoccupied in thought but it's still no excuse .

I think the bumper might take some touch up paint after the venture shield is peeled in that small area. If it comes down to a resprau they wouild keep the bumper and match the paint. They can do real well . For instance my Techart aerokit parts had to be painted before installed and it's perfect.

As long as the damage doesn't hit the car's body structure you're ok.

It's nearly impossible to preseve thse cars to perfection. All you do is try the best you can .

That sucks.

Do your homework when it comes to bodyshops. Ask for references and inspect their finished work before authorizing them to start work on your car.

I was there around 7:30am, I was on my way back from ORP, and my car was on the trailer. I will PM you when I am heading through there again, it would be good to meet up with some other 6 speeders. I was with PJS, Nigel GTS, Allan J, and R Mathews in Yakima, and met Brendo at ORP for the first time. Also was at the track with Gigharbor1. Do you track at all?

I always carry zero deductible on glass.. however, like you, in most cases I'd rather write the check than file a claim.

I took a (Big!) rock on my windshield the second day of ownership. It left two good size chips right where I look through the glass. At least the rock didn't ricochet off the hood before it hit the glass.

Now my dilemma is; get it replaced, or deal with it? My inclination is to deal with it for a while, since around here broken/cracked/chipped windshields are an every day occurence. We'll see...

WRT the Lexus, people are so inattentive nowadays, it's amazing we do as well as we do ...
