C4 vs. C4S
C4 vs. C4S
Can someone summarize what came standard on the '06-'07 C4S vs. the C4 (coupe)? In the market for a wide-body, and low-mile C4 vs. a higher mile C4S at about the same price. Car will be almost a daily driver in the Northeast.
3.8L engine, bigger self-adjusting clutch, bigger brakes with red calipers, pasm. some base cars also can have pasm installed as a custom option.
none of that matters much for a DD car excluding may be bigger engine which is always nice to have. 'S' version is more marketable, as usual, and easier to resell.
The list
I was hoping there would be a comprehensive list somewhere. I've read snippets here and there. So far as I can gather:
19" rims standard (vs. 18" on C4)
PASM (due to the 19" rims standard)
3.8 vs. 3.6 (355 vs. 325Hp)
The big, red brakes
"self adjusting clutch" was news to me! Just on C4S?
"sport steering wheel" was also news to me.
Enhanced PSM:
Sudden throttle lift pressurizes brakes (software feature)
Rapid brake pedal deploys full pressure
Bi-Xenon standard
$10k USD over C4
Anything else?

I agree with most of your combined list, but I think the enhanced PSM referenced as part of the S is also on the C4 as well.
I have an '06 C4 and found it a better value when I purchased it new. I did test drive the S and didn't notice performance gains on my limited test drive although there were more standard features as you noticed.
In the end I was able to negotiate a much better deal for the C4 than for the C4S which in my case included the 19" wheels, full leather, Xenons, heated seats and 6 speed.
I think you'll like either car and should focus on finding the best deal available.

I've got to agree with Bob. Make a list of the features that YOU find most important and then go from there. You'll definitely find some nicely option C4's and some overly optioned C4S's. It would be silly to pay for things you don't really want. If it's going to be a northeast DD, consider not going for 19s...you may very well prefer 18s, especially if you spend any time in or around Boston. Good luck with the search!

yep, i sold my 19" rims with loss altogether with PS2 rubber an not ever getting them again.
Lower ride height due to different springs.
Different exhaust tips.
Note that the Porsche Xenon lights are among the best out there. If you get a base car, be sure to get one equipped with them.

as many base cars i`ve seen so far i have never saw one without xenons.
Here is an excerpt from the MY2007 ordering guide... Looks like engine, wheels, brakes, suspension and xenon are the highlights.
On the used market, C4 seem to be harder to sell than the C4S, I guess the perception is that a "heavier car" i.e. a car with 4WD, can really benefits from the extra HP, and consequentially, the C4 not having the HP, do sell for less. One could also argue that the 4WD will help you "harness" the extra power of the S. But my guess is more that people who have the money to go C4, don't really have a problem going all the way to C4S. But both are great cars and have plenty to offer IMHO.

4 vs 4S
We ended up with a 4S. (my husband convinced me we neeeeeeeeeded it.) I didn't drive the standard 4 long enough to tell the driving differences b/w the 4 and 4S....but I understand most of these cars aren't much different when driving the speed limit. I didn't push back to the S-model because it come with some options that are standard: better seats, leather, a more comfy, wrapped steering wheel, navigation, and bun warmers. It has performance items - fancy big red brakes, a bigger engine, stability stuff). But, I'll never really notice this stuff on my way to work. My husband really likes to show off the "sports" mode option and the stop-watch on the dash to his friends.
Yes, it is a well known fact that black brakes are just so-so, red ones are better, and yellow ones are the best... Does marketing work or what?
That being said, and for some reason, when I stomp on any p-car brake pedal, and without regards to the caliper color, my neck hurts aplenty and I seem to stop fast enough in traffic to get rear ended if I am not extra careful. I'm just sayin'

c2 vs c2s diffs are the least important things to be concerned about. for competitive driving all those minor diffs have no impact at all and for street DD driving they have even less relevance.
look at majority of racers here who tear off PASM altogether and go with aftermarket suspensions, GT3 parts, etc. I would stop discussing all that altogether. if budget allows - get an 'S', if you feel overly stretched - get a base car. in 3 months time you will stop thinking about that 'S' letter anyway and will be loving what you got.

+1, just find a color/option combo you like, which is often hard enough when looking at the used market.
I ended up with an "accidental" _S_ and I am nowhere near the limits of even a 912 from a driving perspective. So it was not a decisive factor for me. I had a non-S 2002 before and it was just fine.
"S" or not you will love the car.
