sticky pcm radio knobs (997)

FYI, for a 997.2, they do not just pull off..... you must first pop the center cap off using a pin or sharp poker. Then you will see the **** is held on my a flat screw.... Use a T6.
If you try and pull the ***** off, you will break your PCM system. My 2009 ***** got sticky in the last 6 months.
997.2 ***** were $60 from Suncoast.

I just used alcohol on my '05 997.1 ***** and it worked perfectly. I then started to try it on the HVAC controls, and the alcohol was pulling the black paint off the controls. I was able to clean them up fairly well with just soap and water after that, but I'd like to repaint them (at least all black without the symbols). Does anyone know what paint to use? Alternatively, any ideas how much the dealership would charge to paint them with the symbols?
Thanks.
Thanks.

What I did was buy a new PCM from a newer Porsche Cayman. They updated the buttons in 2007/2008 where they are a different material, seems like just black plastic and won't peel or chip.

Some companies sell stickers that overlay the switches. A company sells replacement switches, there should be a thread here or rennlist, I would recommend reading it thoroughly.

have same issue. this is so common it should be a "sticky" thread
removed mine using two of those metal credit cards, one on each side. they popped off
the 958 I have uses springs to hold them as shown below
cleaned up like new with alcohol. damn sticky stuff. maybe I have to wash my hands more often?

So I cleaned the buttons and figured this would be a simple job. The right button however when I snap it on it doesn't catch. The back of the button itself looks fine and nothing was broken in removal. I played with the spring around the plastic grips in the back of the button to sit higher and lower to see if it would catch this metal **** but then looking at the **** underneath it's so smooth I'm wondering how it would catch. Did anyone else encounter this issue?
The left volume button had no problem. Annoying!!!

needs a torx to get them off - pop the dial cover off gently (in fact why I had to replace mine - the cover chipped for some unknown reason - twice!) and then you'll see the screw.
see the photo from Serg124, above.
