I recently installed a SmartTop on a '06. I've noticed the additional functionality (windows, top, key fob operation) of the SmartTop is working intermittently. It worked fine after the install but now on some days the top and windows function as if the SmartTop was not installed. Anyone else experience this or have ideas about what the problem may be?

 

I find that you need to be very close to make the full functionality work from the fob.

Another thought is that maybe you're not fully seated back there? It was a little tricky getting the header and pins to "lock".

 

I agree. Initially I thought the battery might be getting low in the fob, but either way, mine works fine from a closer range.

The issue is not so much the functionality with the key fob, but I do appreciate the advice regarding proximity. The problem is more related to normal SmartTop functionality. For example, my wife just came home, hit the top switch once and the top started to close, but when the top up cycle was done, the rear quarter windows were only half way up. It is these kinds of glitches that have me scratching my head.

 

In that case I would recommend you disconnect the module and reconnect it. Then ensure it is secured properly and will not come loose. You may have a connection problem.

 

Actually, I have the same issues and have been in touch with the manufacturer. The problem has not been resolved, as it is intermittent. I suspect there has been a bad batch of SmartTops.

 

Mine always works great from the console. The remote is a 50/50 shot. Usually when I try to be cool and have the car opened up for my lady, it sticks half way and looks like a transformer whose battery died.
