As well as installing the switch on the consol, and connecting it to a wiring harness, the sofware upgrade needs to be done by a dealer.

Is it worth adding this to a stick shift? Sounds like PDK benefits more out of it.

I would guess not really worth it to a 6spd, i can say having a 997.1 S the throttle response in the .2 is alot better afta test driving one, with a 6spd I would say go with a Sprint Booster for $300. Now the SB has 3 Settings Normal..Sport..and a Sport Plus

Sport mode, will lift the shift points on the auto - PDK / TIP, it won't directly affect a stick shift. its main advantage is that throttle response is sharpened up & PSM comes on later (with means you can hang the back end out a bit more around corners and have more fun)

Just got the retro sports software installed today

It took many weeks to get it, but it was worth the wait!
My intrest was in PDK shift improvements. I don't think 6 speed users would find the retro worth it.

Some observations(in Drive and sport mode)
1. Engine revs are now kept above 2k in all gears. it use to hover around 1400 before (light throttle).
2. Stays out of 7th gear. (yeah)
3. Generally it nows drives around 2 to 3 gears lower in normal driving. IE; it is in 2nd or 3rd gear at 25 mph instead of 5th!
4. Shifts into 1st gear at about 15 mph. great for rolling starts
5. Not too agressive for normal driving, just right IMHO.
6. Medium throttle starts are a Hoot!
7. Full throttle starts are about the same with a little firmer shifts.

Summary: All PDK's should have this software. It was like I got a new car, the driving experience is BACK. I would prefer to have it activated at all times with a button that says "Economy" as an option to push.

I tried the Sports + mode to do a launch. It was pretty violent with a lot of wheel hop. It may have been too cold for the tires to get good grip (around 50 deg). Not sure how much use Sports + will get.

Ditto!! - for 95% of your review. I also tried the launch - only once - no wheel hop all - just a WOW!!

100% happy with this mod! (with the exception of the Dealer overcharging for the labor .... - ).

Installation of Sport Mode Retrofit

I am considering adding this option to my 09 C2 PDK. My assumption is that the software update is not a big deal but I'm a little concerned about the installation of the switches. How difficult is this? Should I look for a Porsche dealer with experience installing this option?

For those who have installed this option, any regrets?

i would check first if this 'sc' install for real adds additional maps for PDK ECU or does not.

No regrets. The switch panel is a plugin replacement. Just snaps into place. The software needs to be installed at the dealer because it is basically a software key and requires their equipment to activate it. The dealer will also take care of the switch panel. Best bang for the buck on a PDK car in my opinion.

? What does that mean? It is pretty clear what it does; just like the factory option but without the wart.

I would think it would be well worth doing on any PDK car - like a no brainer. As for DIY...don't know...I'm sure it could be depending on how skillful you are, but you have to get a dealer involved to activate it.

The only thing that you could consider a "self install" would be the switch. The rest is done by a local dealership with a PIWIS tester.

Absolutely no regrets at all!!

The switches are exactly like factory (since they are genuine Porsche parts) and all looks feels like they were always there ( as far as performance related settings ...), except no wart.
