how to minimize RS29 pads noise?
so long so far it is a lot of fun. i got rennline gas pedal ho heel&toe now is a lot easier to do, and it should help a bit. will see.
OK, I am doing the brake pads tomorrow or Wednesday...
I took a wheel off to look in there and make sure that what I am seeing is consistent with the DYI and it all looks OK. The only question that remains is about the dampers: my current OE pads still have a lot of like on them so even if I spread them real good they probably will not come out easy because of the dampers.
Should I remove the caliper altogether or just use a putty knife and separate them in place so I can take the pads out? I also would like to confirm that, when putting the RS29's in, I do no have to put any dampers in there, even the front ones that look like they have a part of the piston attached...
Actually, looking at pictures, I barely believe the front one will actually come out without removing the calipers - these little metal pucks on the dampers look pretty big.
Any help is appreciated,
T.

it is a good idea to wash off that glue if you will use new dampers.
people remove dampers not because they hate them but simply because new RS29 pads with new rotors do not fit into caliper even with fully detracted pistons. you will see.
when i was removing dampers one of those 'pucks' got torn off and was stuck in the caliper, but i rounded it up and did not care until i took caliper off for some other work. i would not be overly obsessed about that, just try not to damage gaskets around pistons too much.
PS. rub off all corners on RS29 on a piece of sandpaper to make a 45 deg edge - it actually helps to reduce squeal when all contact edges are worked up well. it does not last long but at least in the beginning it is a bit quieter on a street, on a way back home it all screams again.

I wonder why they put them there if only to mess with me... I already beveled the pads at 45' for a couple of mm. I should be ok then.
Thanks, T.

So, I am assuming that if you had one there and one missing, the "pucks" are not an "extension" of the piston? Or the're are not needed anyway. I wonder why they put them there if only to mess with me... I already beveled the pads at 45' for a couple of mm. I should be ok then. Thanks, T.
dampers are optional and most people do not use them for track pads (or ever). i took them out in May and car seems to do just fine so far.
if your RS29 pads do fit into calipers with dampers in them - so i can`t see why not. IMHO it is purely optional, if it fits. it just does not fit, usually, if dampers are not removed and you cannot 'push' pads into caliper iunder pressure, it should get into there freely or it will rub and heat up rotors.
Utkinpool, in 4 words you just made my day, the light just went "pop", I get it now...
Thanks a million (or a rep point anyway).
