System Default Goto Workshop HELP
Just purchased a used 2005 997S last week from a private party. Had PPI which showed that the car was in excellent condition with just over 17k miles. Went to shop to have the car smogged. As I was driving off the lot, I noticed the ABS failure light had come on. I restarted the car and the warning light was gone. I thought it was due to the smog ck machines, etc... Today, I started the engine and the Message of "system default--goto workshop" came on. Can I reset the computer? Any ideas would be helpful. I just had the car for 1 week and I don't want to be visiting the shop to often...YET
Thanks in advance

Disconnect the negative battery terminal and remove the gas cap. Leave both off for 10 minutes then replace the gas cap and then the battery teminal, in that order. This will reset the computer. If the fault returns you'll need to have the problem sorted out.
Dadio,
Thank a lot for your post, but it did not work. I did what you told me and it work for about two minutes , and then it show me system default--goto workshop. I left the car without batt for the n ight, When I arrive from work, I will see.....

10 minutes is sufficient to reset the light so you'll need to get it sorted out. Not sure what de-smogging entails but possibly an issue with an O2 sensor damaged or disconnected in the process. Might want to have the shop that did the de -smog check it out for free as they may well have contributed to the issue. Beyond that a trip to the dealer may be in order.
If all else fails you need to read the 'fault code(s)' w/ either a Durametric or a dealer's PIWIS. The Durametric can clear the code if its bogus. If its real then of course you'll need to correct the fault.
I've had my 997 smog checked 3 times w/o having any issues or problems. I believe they just plug their CARB device into the OBD port and place a 'sniffer' in the exhaust pipe. They might check gas caps and inspect the engine for visual mods but none of that should set off a 'System Fault'.
If you have a 'friendly' dealer or INDY that will quickly check the fault and clear it (if possible) you'll be good to go again.
Keep us posted and good luck!

Thanks for your posts, they are giving me a north to proceed. My situation is this, I bought the car in USA, a Carrera s 997.1 2005 29K, one year ago, then I ship it to Colombia and I had some customs problems and it was parked almost a year.I could take out last week. I was planning to change oil next week(how many ¼´s of mobile for that car?) in the only not dealer Porsche workshop in Bogota. With the info I have read, I can talk with a bit of confidence and that way not letting them make me change any part. Since the official Porsche dealer did not import the car, they will charge me about usd1800 only to receive the car, and I don’t want them to squeeze my money……Could the problem be the gasoline? thx again

Juan it sounds like you've gone through quite a bit trouble getting this car into and approved by the Columbian government. I'm hoping (for your sake) there is a qualified independent Porsche service shop that has a PIWIS or Durametric tool at their disposal. That will provide a pointer to the fault. I really don't know if your gasoline could be the source of the problem. 'System Faults - Visit Workshop' has many inputs that can display that error message. It could as minor as a fault gas cap to a control module.
When you change the oil it should take 8+ quarts if you replace the filter as well. Don't over fill. Put in 8 quarts and run the motor awhile. Let it cool down and check the oil level (it might be a segment low). If low add just a 1/2 quart and check it again. Repeat if necessary.
Good Luck!

Leaded gas will certainly muck up the CAT's and post error codes.
Took the car to Porsche dealer to change oil and they connected the piwis and it show lot of error codes they errased except one "gateway 8008". Good news is it does not show any light.
