Several years ago, not in a Porsche, I twice experienced a "squirmy" tire sensation at speed. No vibration or steering wheel shimmy. Turned out to be the beginning of internal separation of a steel belt in both cases. One was a Goodyear the other a Firestone. The dealers chalked them up to defective tire manufacture.

It could be a tire problem, a bent belt on one (or more) tire. It may also be balancing, I highly doubt the balancing is designed for triple digit speeds.

signature65 is infamous around these parts
i have hankooks and have none of the problems you are refering to.

As for the balancing of the tires, harmonic balance can do funny things to wheels. It all comes in waves and can come in harsh or soft at all different speeds. This is why everything includes a balance, rotate and balance, mount and balance ect ect.

After 2 sets of Conti rears in 19,000 miles I ordered a full set of the new Conti's from our TireRack buddy Damon ( no complaints!). Unfortunately the rears ( 305s) were not available and after 2 1/2 months of waiting, numerous calls, no answers finally gave up and got the 4 Hankooks for $800. Worst thing was I was really enjoying driving on my rear 'slicks'; next worst was that they mounted one of the rears backwards and I did not notice it for several days!

Impressions after a good balance and alignment and 3,000 miles:

tires took several hundred miles to start to "feel good', as would be expected.
tires seem to take a little longer than the Contis to warm up.
I suspect, but don't know, that the tread compound is a little harder.
Sometimes at about 80mph on the turnpike it feels a little 'squigly', whatever the hell that means, but it goes away. Don't know if it is me or the tires or the road surface.
Had the Contis up to 155 a few times but never will on the Hankooks. Do get to 125 a couple of times a month and they feel fine.

Now the most amazing - I check the cold pressure ( car garaged at 70 degrees) at least twice a month and the damn tires have not lost an ounce of pressure the last 3 1/2 months! My 2 sons tell me to have my eyes checked, but this is true.
