Unhappy 2010 carrera s clutch/transmission problem

HEY GUYS,
I bought my 2010 carrera s last year and since then I've been having problems with gear 1. sometime, 40-60% of the times, it just doesn't shift, and i mean NOT SHIFTING OR FEELING LIKE BREAKING THE GEAR IF I PUSH IT A BIT HARDER by not shifting.
this happens regardless of the engine being warm or cold.
I'm in the middle of the traffic stopped and try to shift into gear 1 and it just doesn't shift. usually when i leave it in neutral and hold the clutch again it'll work.
also, the dealer informed me that the car is normal and they test drove it and it acts like all the other carrera s'.
what do you guys think might be the problem or is it normal?
the car is in brand new condition.
i've had bmw m3, m5, and m6, but never experienced a problem like this with their clutch and transmission.
please help.
thanks,

that's exactly what i do most of the times. either go to second then first or double clutch neutral.
Thanks for the reply.

I have a 07 997s and have never had that problem. It is definately not normal. One of the best things about the car is how easily it shifts. I would call that highly abnormal and take the service person out and show it to him.

I have an 06, sometimes when REALLY cold the linkage into first is a bit stiff. A quick trip into the 2nd gear gate and back to 1st clears it. But nothing like 40-60% of the time. Sounds like the shift linkage cables stretched a little since the factory and need a bit of snugging up. I've not done it myself, but it should be an easy fix. The gearbox is the #1 reason for my love of the 911.

Don't let the dealer push "Normal" on you, sometimes you have to push back on them. I've had some not-so-nice experiences at the P-car dealers in the area by having to prove that a premier sports car should not "Normally" have little flaws like these. Stand your ground, the Service Manager might be a next step if the service advisor is not helping. P-Car North America can put significant pressure on the dealers for any ratings less than perfect for service.

I have an 06S and would say it happens around 2% of the time when cold. I put it in second and back into first, most of the time that works, or the double clutch trick.
I do get it when warm occasionally, and by that I mean twice in two years.

Your situation doesn't sound normal. Perhaps your linkage needs adjusting or maybe the syncros are bad.

shift

Same thing happens to me about 5% of the time. When it does happen, I shift about a 1/4 of the way into second then up into first....this usually clears it.

Once in a blue moon for me in my 2010 C2. But if it is half of the time, you need to keep on the dealer. Sounds like bad syncro in 1st gear.

You haven't got a problem. Honest. You may need to learn some additional techniques for dealing with a full-on sports car transmission, but your symptoms are not a problem with the car. It's only been a week since the last time we discussed this, so I don't feel like writing anything detailed to be honest. But here's my first post on this question in the most recent thread: http://tinyurl.com/NotchyTranny
[Sorry. That is my second post over on that thread. Here is my first on that thread.]

It's followed by a detailed explanation of a related issue a few days later. Enjoy.

Gary

Thanks, I'll definitely go back to the dealer. my luck. Everytime I went it didn't happen. They said they can't do anything until they duplicate the problem. Also, I was told that the problem doesn't get stored so I have to keep trying until they find it.

Maybe even try a different dealer, but if this happens 60% of the time, how is it that they and you can not replicate it? Mathematically it does not compute.

this also happens in my 06 S every so often only when the engine is cold. I'm quite sure its normal but if its happening 40-60% of the time, that definitely seems excessive.
