To remove the wires have a pin handy so you can push in the metal tab on the factory wire end. You will need to do this twice as you pull out the wire because it will catch at the second opening of the wire block.
See post #116 second picture for the "wire block" & the openings.

Didn't want this thread to die. I never got a warning light on my hack...though I did get a dead battery leaving switch in off position. I leave in home all the time now. I'm going to put in off tomorrow morning and see how the battery is when I come home for lunch. Love the hack....just want to figure out if hack is causing battery drain.

I never had a battery problem with the original way the hack was done however I switched over to the diode hack to be on the safe side.

so, just as an update, plenty of time passed since i did put a diode in, car is left in the garage with switch in the 'home' position all the time, i drive it usually about of 2-3 times a week to drop off kid at school in the morning, so far battery feels fine.
so looks like this way is safe enough.

I've been following this thread as the DRL module install seems a bit of work, just wondered if your parking light warning was because you left the signal stick up or down allowing the parking light right or left on after ignition off. This is a Euro feature (small roads) so that you can light up the vehicle either side when parking depending what side of the road you pulled up on. It's got me a couple of times. Has it happened again since you posted? Thanks!

drl module

i have a tflm dectane module tht will accomplish the drl coming on whenthe ignition is turned on,. i doesnot require going to the cabin to a switched power source it senses the ignition being turned on. the wasy i hooked it up was taking out the passingefr headlight. then you have a blk/white wire and a yellow/white wire on one end of the plug, then hook up the ground. then you tap into the orange/white wire of the parking light and you are done . it has never been opened and i will sell for 7$47.50 shipped,

I installed this hack using the diode as described. I keep a battery tender on my car when not in use. On this battery tender, a red light is on when charging, which turns off when the battery is at full charge. Typically, the red light does not stay on very long after attaching the tender.

The day I performed the hack, I went on a few hour drive. No issues. When I got home, I put back on the battery tender. The red light has now been on for 5 days!!! Could I have done something wrong with the hack? I'm wondering why the battery is now requiring so much charge.

Any thoughts?
Kevin

How old is your Battery?
When was the last time you checked the water level in the Battery or added distilled water?
I changed to the diode about 6 weeks ago & have not had any trouble.
Two weeks ago the car sat w/o the battery tender for 5 days & since I was going out of town for a week I plugged in the battery tender. A half an hour later I went back out to the car to get something & noticed the charging light was off.
After sitting 12 days she fred right up.

Thanks for the follow-up.

Not sure how old the battery is. Car is a 2007, purchased CPO in January. Not sure if they change the battery with CPO.

Just for argument's sake, is it possible that I installed the diode reversed??? What would happen if that were the case.

Thanks.

Kevin

Think of the diode as an one way check valve for the flow of electricity. When the diode is in place the electricity flows from the switch to the fog lights but when the car is off it prevents the electricity stored in the battery from running to ground. If you reversed it the electricity should not be able to flow from the home switch to the fog lights & thus the fog lights will not come on when the home switch in on.
Check the date code on the battery, I was able to get 4 1/2 years out of the original battery.

diode method should be safe. i left it on for a long time now and car if left with 'home' position all the time - nothing happens. so i hope it should be safe.
