Headlight question..

Can anyone tell if these are real/original HID bi-xenon headlights or HID retrofitted halogen units?

Thanks

The part number is Porsche however, I find it near impossible to believe that Porsche installs headlights made in Japan with a label written in English. I would remove mine to compare the label.........but I'm not going to. I say nope.

It's is quite possible and plausible that the electronic headlights are sourced from Japan as is the car's transmission. Surprised? IFRC, English is the official language of the EU so it would make sense to label things in English. Ever found anything on your car labelled in German? You need to travel a bit farther from home.

These look like, from the front, standard xenon lights that come on the C2 997.2. That is, the primary light is xenon, the high-beam is halogen.

I believe the S models come with dual xenon projectors.

I say that because they look identical from the front to those on my 09 C2.

From the pictures you posted. They look OEM. Halogen Units have different wiring system and connectors. A good way to check is when you start your car, make sure the headlights are on and facing a wall, the Xenon should move down and up to do a auto leveling check.

Thanks everyone,
I will be installing these on my 2008 Carrera which came with halogen only headlights. I just don't want to get screwed by an aftermarket retrofit which I can do easily myself.

Bi-Xenon owners,
I know the high-beams are halogen but your bi-xenon units should be both high and low (same lightbulb but the shutter changes between high and low patterns). Can you verify this for me?

I have a E46 M3 and a VW Touareg, both have bi-xenons. On both cars, when I push the high-low selector arm forward, bi-xenon switches to high. Only when I pull the lever back, the halogens kick in (flash-to-pass mode) while holding the selector arm.

Thanks.

BTW, just tried this on my C2 that does not have adaptive headlights (the lamp looks like the one you posted).

The top projector does move up on "high". The lower halogen also lights up.

See this for differences with adaptive vs. non adaptive bi-xenons:

Before you go and invest $1300, I'd verify that your '08 can accept those lights. I know on my E39 BMW it would have been VERY expensive to retrofit Bi-Xenon on a Halogen car - I never did it as a result. Not because of the expense of bulbs and control units, but the Voltage required to power those lights. Halogen cars do NOT have the same wiring harness as a Bi-Xenon cars. Good luck...

What's that??? I'm on the beach in Cannes. I can't hear you.... don't be rude. I actually spend a lot of time here in the EU and English is NOT the official language of the EU. The EU has over 20 "official" languages.

Sorry I misunderstood your post. I thought you had this set in your car. I did not realize you want to buy this unit from Ebay. Anyway, I think you may have to find out from your local dealer if the electrical contacts would be indentical. Wiring may be different. So this might be be a plug and play to install.
Daberlin is right. Before you spend $1300, make sure it is compatible. Circuits may be different going from Halogen to Xenons.
The cheaper way would be to buy an aftermarket Xenon Conversion Kit. I hear Philips sells a good kit. Porsche Halogens are H7 so an H7 Xenon Kit would be plug and play. But it's up to you. Do your research first before spending the $$$.
