Does this cabin filter cover look right?

So I was tinkering in the frunk on Sunday and decided that I wanted to see why my battery cover was not flush but popping up at the left and right edges so I popped the battery cover for the first time since buying the car and I was presented with a piece of foam on the left side of the compartment that looked torn up. Now the entire battery compartment will be getting a good detail job soon because it was in pretty bad shape but the part the concerns me is this foam piece, should it even be there? Is it out of place? I removed the far left plastic cover from the frunk and saw the foam continues over the cabin filter. I don't remember the cabin filter in the 996/986 having this foam piece going over it, and couple that with the fact it is torn I am just wondering if this is even supposed to be there.

On top of that it seems that all of the frunk platic pieces around the edges are loose and missing fastening screws, again, in my 986 they were all secured down, I take it this is also not normal. I was able to simply lift the left side cover off, no screws or anything, same with the pieces along the outside L/R runners of the frunk compartment. Oh yeah and the battery cover is still not flush, can't rememdy the popping up slighty at the edges, is it even supposed to be flush?

you are all good except for the small rip you show on the grey material cover that goes over the filter itself. Mine is the same (minus the rip).. Not a worry. Also the side covers you speak about just pop in with no screws. Under the grey material cover is a metal bracket that must hold the actual filter in place. Also on the center battery cover, mine bows out on both side along the center. Not a concern for me. So you look all good except for that minor rip which also looks like no big deal.....

Great! Thanks for the info. Guess my @nal-retentive a$$ was too picky, of course i have to fix the tear otherwise I will not be able to stop thinking of it...think I will just even it out and trim it a bit so it does not look ripped.

I just changed my cabin air filter last week and mine looks the same. It takes a little bit of wiggling but able to fit the filter without distorting it.

I'm in the same boat! Can't find the part # in PET or anywhere for this elusive grey material/foam cover! I ordered a new cowl panel that I got today (mine was faded & warped), but no new cover attached. Did you find this part #? Anyone??

it's funny, i've been able to find every part/number that i've looked for so far except this one. the closest guess i have is the "cover, particle filter" #997.572.729.02? the diagram drawing doesnt actually show that piece of foam (as the cover looks to be a cutaway in order to show the filter itself) but maybe the foam is part of the cover??

also, almost EVERYTHING porsche is stamped/marked with a number...nothing on that foam?

I finally found it! If you look in PET there is one part # with a "-", which means "not shown in illustration"., over on Renntech Loren has a new parts list illustration that clearly shows this part. See post #10
http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...-filter-cover/

It is part # 997-572-763-00 we've been looking for..

i'm assuming you mean the cowl that rests on the windscreen, directly below the wipers, #997.572.563.08, correct? did you have issues with excess water getting into your battery/suspension area? i just noticed a gap between that cowl and my windscreen about midway between the wipers. now i know that this is not an airtight seal but the gap is a couple mm's apart and is about and inch or 2 in length. when washing the car, a lot of water gets in there...

Take a read through the link over at Renntech, the part # I listed for is the thin foam flap / cover that goes over the entire cabin filter that attaches to the cowl. I just bought an entire new cowl and installed it over the weekend, my old one was pretty faded and slighly warped and I too was concerned about excess water getting in there, only to realize it will all drain properly if you make sure ALL four of your drain holes (behind and to the left and right of the battery) are all clear - then you'll be ok. If you have a Cab, be sure to check the rear drain holes!!

I've just noticed that I'm missing the cover yesterday. I also had the fogging when first using the A/C or heat... Using the info on this thread I've found the part on eBay. Already ordered it(used-good condition for39$ including shipping). Excellent info.
