Denison 500s - "no CD changer"
Denison 500s - "no CD changer"
I know this subject has been bounced around a lot but maybe someone can give me some help. My 997 does not have a CD changer. I took it to the dealer to enable the CD changer (first time the service dept has done that and had several options so this COULD be my problem) and I'm don't know what they actually do to switch that. Anyway, they installed the Denison 500s bt. They did an excellent detailed job fitting the unit behind the PCM. They pulled out the MOST wire (the extension loop to the front boot) and plugged the Denison directly into that opening. They set the switches correctly for a Porsche. The Denison has power and it recognized my BT. BUT... no connection to my Ipod. Each time i turn on the car it reads: "NO CD CHANGER". I go to the radio and the message goes away but comes on each time i start it. Any ideas of what the dealer is missing? They are very frustrated. Thanks.

My Dension main unit is behind the radio and the little box with the rca/usb/ipod connector is in the center console. It has a little switch on it which is for Dension or cd changer
It's on switched to the Dension but when I take the car for service, I was told to flip it back changer to avoid error codes so maybe your switch is in the wrong position?

Yes... my connector port is also in the center console. It has the blue light on indicating power. The switch is toggled to the "active" mode. The "bypass" for taking in to service. I hope not using the MOST ring and instead plugging the Denison directly into the PCM head unit is ok and not the problem. Is that what you did?
I thought you need to connect to the MOST ring so the Dension unit behaves as a good 'PCM Client'. At least that's how I installed mine many years ago and it has worked just fine ever since. My car didn't have a CD changer and I didn't need to have Porsche use the PIWIS to recognize the Dension unit. It simply 'pluged & played'.
i've gotten that error before albeit seldom. if restarting the car doesnt work, i toggle that dension switch back/forth 3x - i think i read somewhere that this "resets" it or something?? that always does the trick. ya never know, sometimes it's the simple things. you may want to try it. also, contact eric at bumperplugs. heck of a guy and he knows these things like the back of his hand.
i should note that i do not have BT and it is an older model dension that usu performs flawlessly.
good luck.

The Dension Unit operates on the notion that it has to be a part of the MOST pathway; be it from behind the PCM fiber optic connections or in the frunk. If you are truly connected to the MOST pathway, then all you need now is to activate the the PCM to recognize the "CD Changer" via PIWIS. Mind you, depending on the Porsche tech, the older PIWIS unit was easier to deal with when activating certain things, vs the newer unit that is a bit more complicated. This may be the problem, as the "CD Changer" activation needs to be activated on 2 rows, IIRC.

Did you get this figured out? I had a similar issue. Just got and installed the 500S BT. Came out of the box with firmware version v43 and worked fine. I downloaded and installed v45 from Dension's website. Came with some new features and the BT seemed to be better but got the 'no cd changer' error that the original poster noted. I didn't get this error with v43. Contacted Eric and Dension directly. Both offered suggestions but no luck getting rid of the error. Dension sent me v43 and I reinstalled that and got the error message to go away. Dension rep said he would pass this info to the developers. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this with v45. Other info, I have a 2006 C4 with Bose and CDC which is now out of the MOST loop.
