dam, silly millimeters...
just tried to put a 245/35/20, ET 51 on my car, the new porsche 991 rim, and, yes, i bought a set, and also bought the tires, was hoping it would fit, don't call me stoopid(ala fish called wanda), and it hits the spring base, rears fit fine... and the wheel still turns but it is rubbing, sooooo, i guess i need to get the 235/30/20 front tires...the pirellis have quite a large curb protective protrusion built out on these tires, i was hoping to use the larger tire for ride Q, just had to tell somebody, and i have at least 2 pirelli p-zeros for sale...brand new,
well, i looked at the tire on the car and it was already at least flush with the fender from waht i could tell and i think i would need at least 10mm and i don't want it sticking out beyond, for aesthetics first of all, but then it would be throwing mud and everything else the tire catches over the side of the car...i am afraid there is no help for it...that spring base doesn't move,, i see welds there and it would compress the spring all to helk... what about damptronics or pss9... what is the setup like there?
i have the Damptronics on my S- they are good- of course the ride is a bit harsher- but the car corners better & sits nice and low. However its an EXPENSIVE mod- labour + parts cost me about $2800 (i bought used set)

well i will be going smaller, but not for speedo discrepancy, and when i had them on the car, they were the smallest looking 20's i think i have seen, but maybe i just want them to be smaller too...i'm working on getting pics up...
Your problem is 20" wheels and tires that are too tall. If you don't want to kill the handling performance of your 997 you need to go back to 19" wheels then you can use a 245/35 tire up front.
On my 20" wheels I have a 235/25/20 Hankook Ventus V12 on the fronts and there is no rubbing issue. If you use 20's on a 997, you have to keep overall circumference essentially the same as stock (i.e., use plus sizing rules/dimensions).
i am going for the look, if i go to the ring i will it will be on 19's, and i may give up on the 20's if i havve to go to 25 ratio tires, not a fan of the rubber band... if i can do 30 aspect on the front, maybe, have looked up on tire comparison page the difference and 235/30/20 is only 2mm difference from 235/35/19, i think the 25 aspect will insure no rubbing, but isn't that overkill?
so here is a pic of the 991 felge on my car, the weight is off the jack, so it is about where it will be, and at this point it is rubbing, the rears are fine, now having my second favorite wheels, the carrerea sports on, i will probably roll these until i find whether i can run the 235/30/20, which i would do, but if i have to go to 235/25/20, i don't think i will. i seem to remember seeing guys with 235/30's here...anyway, no hurry now... they do look great though
