European protocol as I understand from my earlier investigation. When the top is down you can hear them close at about 25 mph (sound is muted) then open again around 40 mph and the sound gets louder. This is heard much more clearly with the top down. Hope this helps.
Not on my 2012 GTS. The PSE on the 997.1 did shut off as you described (I had one), but pretty sure it doesn't on the 997.2, and definitely sure it doesn't on my car.

Believe me I know. I thought this would be a straight forward question answer. But apparently not.

Now I am being told by Porsche parts that the "front muffler" (have to mean the center muffler) must be replaced as well as it is different on a stock exhaust vs. the PSE exhaust. Any one have any experience or information that can shed some light on this out of control project?

If the center muffler is different on PSE, wouldn't it come with the PSE kit that you would order? I have no idea if it is different, because PSE came as standard on my car, so can't help you there.

Run away from this dealer! They don't know what they are doing. Just order the kit from Suncoast and then take it to a different dealer to install. The dealer you are working with is trying to add new parts for you to buy and take advantage of you.

Sounds like you should get a second opinnion. I'd call Gunter at Porsche Fremont; he's one of the best in the area (he's the Service Manager). Explain your dilemma and see what he has to say.

Unfortunately it was Suncoast Porsche that advised I would need the "front muffler" too. I will call Gunter at Fremont; they serviced my 993 coupe and always did a good job. Thanks for the tip stronbl.

All parts, (2) mufflers and switch were included in the PSE kit @$2800 for my 11 911 CAB. Labor was an additional $1100. Done December 2012 at ATL P-Car dealer. Make certain you keep old mufflers, they have some $$ value for the catalytic converter at savage yards, if you can't sell them on e-bay.

The catalog shows different part numbers for the center muffler for a car w/ sport exhaust and a car without. However, they do supersede to the same part number. Both sport exhaust and standard exhaust share the same center muffler.

Please let me know if there is anything else we can help you out with.

Are you saying that if you install PSE on car, you get new catalytic converters?

My mistake, just the mufflers, which do have a scrap yard value. The P-Car dealers sell them to scrap dealers for $50-$200 each I have been told by both ATL dealers.

I figured as much. Thanks. I am kind of shocked that Suncoast messed that up.
