Benefits

From Suncoast's website:

For fast, sporty gear shifting: the factory short shift kit reduces shift paths by up to 35% (9X6) and by up to 20% (9X7, 2005-12). That means more precise shifting thanks to perfect shift guidance and a sportier driving experience. Compatible with any factory shift ****.

We should not forget to mention the almost guaranteed problems with the 2nd gear synchros that will follow when higher mileage is reached .....

First I've heard of this. Is this a benefit of having SSK or not having SSK?

This is a OEM kit from Porsche, if selected it can be built with the car from the factory. I have not heard of any issues with a OEM SSK causing problems with 2nd gear synchros. If anything I would say that is more prevalent with aftermarket kits, but still very rare.

Seems to be pretty much the case with aftermarket ssk kits. Since the throw is shorter you need to apply more force, which seems to create higher wear on the 2nd gears synchro. Was widely discussed on 986forum. However not sure if this applies to the kit in the suncoast promotion.

Now, if only Suncoast would make their Sport Mode Software 30% off.....

In my brief research, problems with the 2nd gear synchros seem only to happen with the 996. Can anyone validate this?

From I what read on PelicanParts, SSK by nature puts more pressure on the gears irregardless of who made them. You just can't beat physics.

On the other hand, I love them. I installed one on my SC knowing that I can rebuild the tranny anytime. I have yet to install one on the 997.

As soon as I saw this sale, I jumped on it. Best price I've seen for the (Porsche) SSK. Looking forward to the DIY install. Also may paint my center console while I have everything apart.
