Upcoming Maintenance on High Mileage 997.1 - What to look for?
Folks,
I wanted to open this thread as a repository for a list of things to look for on high mileage 997.1 Porsche cars. My car has passed its 50K miles anniversary and although it runs perfectly fine, I would like to know what other owners have had to watch for, on 997.1 which are used on a daily basis and that have accumulated close to or more than 45,000 Miles.
Things that come to mind are Water Pump, AOS, Engine Mounts....etc. I am also looking for all the items that are not listed in the Porsche Maintenance Manual and are failing outside of the regular recommended maintenance windows.
Please share your experiences, good and bad.
Thanks
Yves

Thanks for the suggestions, but these are maintenance item that Porsche recommended changing on a regular basis. I am more looking for the things that are not listed in the manuals.
Don't let scheduled mileage items in your log book deter you from paying attention to Porsche parts. These cars need continuous attention regardless of what the maintenance schedule recommends.
Sbelt....per manual says 60k replacement. Plenty of 997s have snapped a belt well before 60k and blew a water pump.
You're asking for daily driver advice. I've logged over 80,00 miles in my 997 and I'm telling you......if you follow manual maintenance intervals, you're gonna get caught with your pants down.
It all depends on how your drive, how often you drive.
i do my oil every 3k.. some think thats stupid but its what preserves the motor..
im at 49k just about to do my serpentine belt and plan to do a coolant flush and probably water pump when i add the 3rd center radiator
doing a brake fluid flush this weekend, thats mainly to upgrade to high temp fluid!
i expect to do coil packs and plugs in 10k miles or so
My 2005 997.1 has 70k on it, at about 60k did the spark plugs, air filter, I change the oil every 4k-5k. My water pump was going out and replaced it at about 69k. Do the water pump for sure. I also was having starting issues and thought it was the battery, turns out it was the battery cable. It's a small part but a big job, I would recommend doing this too.
Mine with 42.6k miles got intermittent misfires. Changed spark plugs and ignition coils. Problem solved. Checked original coils and 5 of them have visible cracks on the body. Replaced them with the “updated” ones (longer body) together with new fasteners and new OEM spark plugs. If you are planning to replace spark plugs do a favor Yourself and replace also the coils. They will degrade together with the plugs Mainly due to their location that is exposed to a lot of heat from cylinder itself and also the proximity to the exhaust. Location under carriage also expose them to road conditions (water, salt, dirt).
Also previous owner changed water pump, hoses, water reservoir, serpentine belt, front brakes, fluid brake, clutch & flyweel, RMS (seal) at 32k miles. Engine filter, and in cabin filter. I will soon change Oil as approaching to 3k miles since last service. Pending to check the AOS (until now is working fine).
Hope this will help.
cheers
