Coolant Leak Cause? Pics Attached
Coolant Leak Cause? Pics Attached
I noticed my coolant level going down slightly last year before putting my car in storage. When I took it out this weekend I looked at the cardboard I put underneath the car with no obvious signs of anything having leaked and the coolant level was the same as it was when I put it away.
I did notice white powder on the black thing (?) behind the coolant cap. See attached pictures
I still have version 1 of the coolant cap...
TIA

That's the purge cap of the expansion tank. they sell all the parts to replace that part but you will be better by replacing the whole tank. it will come with the latest version of the cap...
Thanks Joel.
Why are you recommending replacing the whole tank when I can replace the purge cap? I read that replacing the tank was expensive?
Do you have a part number for the purge cap?
Thanks

Joel,
I changed the blue coolant cap to the latest version. I also bought the o-rings but to my surprise, the PRV did not have any when I opened it up nor does it have any o-ring grooves!?!?

The tank WILL leak on you...it's a question of when, not if.
Myself included I personally know 2 other 911 owners who had to replace their tanks. I found mine online for under $200 if I'm not mistaken. ...few write ups on line of how to do it, if you're handy at all.
The job itself is a HUUUUUGE pain in the a$$.

well, damn. I just found a weeping leak in my front radiator, so if the tank is failure prone I guess I am in to replace the front radiators, the tank, and the water pump, as I may as well do it all the same time

IslandS62,
how did you spot the weeping in the front radiator? mine are soo far back unless it was right on the face, I'd never see it. did you remove the underside of the front bumper area to see this?

I found pink residue under my front bumper, and after removing the underside panel I can see with a flashlight the seam of the radiator has telltale pink crusty coolant on it. Not a bad leak, no puddle, but it needs addressing.
