fueling problem

Ok....just got this 2006 C4S about a month ago and today tried to fill the tank as the gauge registered about a quarter tank (on dash and digital readout)....cant put anymore than a buck...starts to backup into overflow...here in Oregon we're not allowed to fill it ourselves....an attendant has to....what gives here? ...hasn't happened before and I've filled it at least a dozen times already

Pumping too fast? Maybe try metering the fuel in a bit slower.

I've been wondering myself "what gives" with the funky law forbidding you to touch the fuel dispenser...

In NJ, the law also forbids anyone other than the station attendant from dispensing fuel. It is not so strictly enforced, however. I pay with a credit card at the pump so i finish the process myself, print the resceipt and wave to the attendant that I am all set and leave. The law probably was based on safety. You do read about folks driving away with the nozzle still in the car. Plus, folks with disabilities do not have to get out of their cars to get gas. Finally, we ( in NJ) do not have to pay the often ~$0.30+/gallon I see around the country for having someone fill your car for you.

Regarding filling troubles, it might depend on the brand of nozzle used at the station and compatability with your car. I haven't kept track of those details but I generally go to different Shell stations and encounter no problems. Take a look at the nozzle each time and you might see a trend with different brands. Finally, different states might have diferent rules regarding nozzle designs.

Google it. Lots of info on various porsche sites. Have read that a defective filler neck will cause the problem. have also read that there is a built in safety flap that closes in the event of a roll over to prevent fuel spillage and a resulting fire. My understanding is that this a correctable by replacing a fuse as the flap is electronically triggered. Don't know which fuse though.
The fueling with the nossle upside down sounds like voodoo science to me.

I had the same problem

Here in California several of the local gas stations recently made a change due to some law trying to eliminate fumes from coming out when filling the tank I guess. All the sudden I couldn't get a full tank anymore on my 997 C2. This happened at several local stations.

Someone here posted about Porsche having an adapter that fits around the collar of the fuel nozzle receptacle. I went to my dealer and picked one up a couple of weeks ago. I've filled the car twice since and both times got pretty close to a full tank.

I don't know what the part is called, but the parts dept. knew what I was asking for. It wasn't expensive.

Insert gas filler nozzle in and turn upside down 180* degrees.

X2. This part will solve your problem - do a search and pictures of the filler neck adapter will come up so you have an idea of what it looks like. The P dealer will know what you need.

Best,
