Please advise on my first purchase
Hello folks,
Newbie here. Trying to take the plunge for the first time, buying my first 911. Below is the link. I live in Houston and trying to negotiate with this dealer in San Antonio. I am trying to negotiate with the dealer for the best price before I make a road trip.
What do you think is the best price I can get this car for. Just in case you can't open the link, below are the details:
2010 911 C4S, Manual, Black/Black with 11,135 miles. CPO.
Asking price $77688.
http://5443.ecarlist.com/web/used/Po...exas/10411289/
What do I need to ask/look for , dealing with a dealer out of town? Its different if it were in town, where I could go and see the car in person to negotiate the price.
What are my options dealing with an out of town dealer? What if we agree on a price, and I go there, but for some reason, I am not 100% convinced in getting it, how do I back out?
The dealer asking me to put a deposit on the car if I like it so he can take if off the market. Just not 100% sure if I am getting it for the right price.
I sincerely would appreciate some guidance.
Thanks much.

Hi, based on my recent search for a C2S, either 997.1 or 2, I believe 77k for a 2010 C4s is high.
Even CPO, I believe $70k is a top price, in any case be sure your deposit is fully refundable, or finish negotiations before agreeing to any deposit.
Where do you live? Why a 4s vs 2 s?
Good luck in your search.

I'd tell that dealer to kiss my

They don't know the difference between a C4S and a GT3 but,
Even with shipping and an aftermarket warranty the savings would be huge.

Thanks 997zen and BrakingBad for taking time to respond.
As far as why 4S vs 2S, to be honest, it was more of a personal choice than any practical use of either modes. I always was fascinated by looking at 4S and used to tell myself that someday I'd get one of those. The time has come finally. Plus all of my vehicles I currently own, Lexus RX300, AUDI Q7, Ford F150 are all AWD. So C4S was an obvious choice for me.
Although, when it comes to reality check, and reading all the posts and reviews online, I am not totally opposed to C2S as well. I live in Houston, so its not like we have any issues with snow. All we have is just wet and soggy rains during the hurricane season.
I think I will still keep looking around till I find the one that I like and for the right price.
Thanks again for your valuable insight.

Not a dollar more than 70. My local dealership sold my similarly equipped C4S for 74, CPO, 5000 miles, about three months ago. fyi (They paid me 68 for it)

I agree, $70k would be tops!! And although an upgrade, those are not my (or a lot of guys) favorite seats...and might be a resale issue. 4S has more mechanicals, more stuff to service or fix. For your climate I would be all over a 2S. You should have NO problem finding a great car in TX. I just bought mine private party out of Plano a couple of months ago. Park Place always seems to have a lot of nice cars coming through, off lease.
Good luck! We're all excited and pulling for you!!

I'll add a vote to the price being WAY high. I'd also agree that the 4S is unlikely to give you any real advantage, while it will add weight, cost, and maintenance.
That said, a low-miles CPO 997 is a pretty good deal if you can find it at a competitive price.

Thanks to all, for confirming the price was too high.
I agree with Wheeler on the seats. That was the only thing I did not like about the car. Even my wife gave me a face when she saw those seats.
As far as why I am not looking for a 07-09 997 Turbo, although I appreciate the power of that car, it's just my taste, I didn't really care of the whale tail and the side vents on the car. Plus, I was looking for more of a 2010-2011 model cars and a Turbo in that model year is way out of my budget.
I am one of those who likes to keep it for ever and drive a car into the ground. That's one of the reason why I wanted specifically 2010-2011 C2S/C4S as those are the only ones that I can get for the budget I have set aside for the car.
I don't think the dealer will come down to 70K on this C4S as he was already throwing in bread crumbs of price drop by mere $500 bucks.
I will keep looking for more and keep you posted.
Thanks again to everyone!

I would not pay the asking price from the dealer, I dont think they able to sell it at that price either. I think $70 is reasonable but no more than that. There are lots of cars out there for you to search. Take your time and you will get the right one. I also understand your taste but C2S also lots of fun and probably a little cheaper price
Tomorrow is a different day, a different month, and a little less motivating to the sellers.
Offered 70K and they came back saying it was way too low for them to come down to and the best they could do is discount 2600, bringing the price to 75K. I told them will keep looking and get back to them if I change my mind and if they still have that car in stock by then.
Back on hunting now :-)
