The vehicle has been repaired. The quick connect that attaches the coolant line to the left front rad was disconnected. Tech simply clicked it back in...

You are correct! Thank you for your responses and insight. This waterfall happened when the vehicle was taken out of storage, so I am assuming that considering that the cooling system was not fully pressurized for months, the start up decoupled the fitting. Any how, I did not have to buy any parts just paid for the pressure test and reconnection, $98. I am assuming that here are more incidents like this...

Thats a great feeling 98bux. i felt just like you thinking the rad or somthing major was wrong. Sucks though to come back with a pool of coolant on the floor. Glad all is well enjoy the 997!

Fitting did not decouple, as you suggest, while in storage. The is held in place by a clip that secures the hose to the radiator. If properly installed they do not come loose. It seals itself under pressure. In your case the clip let go which would suggest it was never installed correctly.

That's what happened to me. Dealer changed water pump under warranty. 40 miles later she dumped all coolant. Flat-bedded back so the tech could do their job properly.

What I'd like to know is why this mistake is made - is it really that hard to properly couple them? Do I now need to worry about every bolt, gasket, and screw they touch?

Nothing close to this happens at my indy.

Your issue would be a different as the water pump has more traditional hose clamps fittings. Your overheating was probably a function of the tech not getting all the air out of the cooling system when he refilled it and you lost the coolant through the pressure cap when the system overheated. Many posts on how to properly burp the system and for the dealer to get this wrong suggests a poorly trained tech. At the hourly rate the dealer charges there is no excuse for shoddy workmanship. My dealer did it twice to my Boxster. I don't let them touch my 997.
