Best tuner for a remap?
Best tuner for a remap?
Hi guys,
Can I get an updated opinion on who to use for an ECU remap for my 997S.
It needs to be one that I can do myself where they send you the cable etc etc.
I'm after a 20-25 hp increase along with 20-30 lb torque as well as sharper throttle response, more linear power band.
Heard good things about Softronic, are they still relevant?

Thanks for the advice, been speaking with Jerry from EC for the last 12 hours, great communication so I feel support will be there if needed, plus read some great reviews on them. The advised increase in numbers is 387bhp & 316 lbf-ft.
I also like the fact that it comes with a MyGenius programmer which not only stores the stock programme on there but does not require an internet connection whilst uploading or downloading, and there is also no need for a trickle charger. You can actually pull the car over and flash back between stock and tuned at any time.

Also for $999 the price was acceptable.
Will keep you all posted on the progress.

You can't do it Joey.
Listen: if you want to mod do the flash last. If you go to 200 cell cats and exhaust you can move the torque curve down and gain drivability. Ecu remap will change the throttle tip-in ala sport mode and make you feel faster. The majority of ecu remap focuses on setting parameters for 93 octane (American) and nets you a few horsepower. Intake stuff is mostly change in sound. Anyone who promises you 30/30 increase in ecu remap (they show you dyno proof) is taking your money. You can however raise hp in one part of curve but lose in another for no real overall gain. I have AWE 200 cell cat/exhaust/headers/IPD racing plenum and GT3 throttle body/REVO flash. Some increase in numbers I'm sure but mostly moves torque around to where it is better used on road. Flash gives nice throttle response. Car is faster on the road and responds much better but if you add it up it's fairly big $$$. I've done this over years.
My advise is to search the mods I mention on this site and listen to what guys like me have to say before you drop big bucks and get ripped off. Flash might give you 5 and you'll never feel that. It is the last thing usually done not the first. Hard core modders will tell you a supercharger is only way to get real gains. true. Short engine life comes with that. Sorry to burst your bubble but you need to know this stuff.
Good luck and have fun.

I understand your're speaking generally and I tend to agree with you but at the end of the day you don't know either if the gains are possible or not with this particular remap, only thing to do is dyno and post results here once flashed.
I don't want to start replacing headers and cats and chambers etc, just wanted some quiet unseen mods, so I've left the performance air intake and going the way of just a remap and BMC filter in the stock airbox.
I am not hoping for incredible gains, however I am hoping for better throttle response, quicker pickup, more sporty induction sound, more linear torque and maybe a tenth of a second shaved off the 0-100 time. Time will tell.

I'd suggest checking with Rhonda at FVD (Rhonda@FVD on this forum). There are very few sponsors on the forums that get so many complements for being honest and informative. She was recently discussing exhausts with me and ended up recommending their least expensive muffler as best for my particular goals. Her answers were very specific to my individual questions and showed she really listened to my questions and wasn't just pushing a sale.
FVD has a comprehensive set of performance mods with tunes that make the most of them. The previous post by Gpjli about getting the right parts to go with the tune seems to be the consensus I've seen time and again on the forums, at least if you are going after significant gains... the kind that require you to do several things together.
IMHO, the ECU remaps that don't require you to change any hardware probably aren't terribly worthwhile, I looked into them a lot on my 2006 C4 and concluded I would just be better off using the money to buy an S, and that is what I did. But that statement is likely to be controversial. The only time I personally see a tune as desirable is when you want to make the big mods that require the hardware changes that wouldn't work properly without it.

Do a pretest dyno so have a baseline. Seat of pants won't cut it once you remap the throttle. Oh, and yes, You are welcome joey. GC

I guess he really just wants to change the tune. I'm not sure what engine parameters OP thinks can be changed on a stock engine to get 30 hp and 30 lb/ft of torque without burning a piston. It's all good as long as you don't lean out the mixture too much or advance the timing to self destruct. I think peeps see big gains on remaps to Turbo engines and think you can do the same with a NA setup.I'll keep the name of your contact at FVD for the future. "Help me Rhonda"
For me AWE was great and the Revo flash has a nice throttle remap and different stages of tune to match your mods. Later, Gerry

No need since we know the power is 355bhp right?
Huh?
Huh?
True but I dont think Ive rev'd passed 6500, even with the tune I don't think I'' take it past 7000, so there shouldnt any chance of me pushing the engine to it's limits when flashed.
