You'll be fine, so long as it doesn't snow.

I wondering if a quick trip to run the Blue Ridge would be beautiful, or if I left it a little too late in the year.

By the way, I'm driving a 2015 911S4.
First year I got my 2012 997.2 I drove it all winter with the summer tires.
Loss of traction is very noticeable but no damage to the tires. I got full life out of them with no loss in performance in the the summer. It was plenty cold here in MN but not a lot of snow that year. I put winter tires on the following year for winter much better as far as traction goes.
