New C2S Cab & need mufflers!
New C2S Cab & need mufflers!
1st post here after a few days of reading and doing searches. I hope you all are not sick of talking about mufflers. Wife and I have a new 06 C2S Cab coming in to the dealer on Monday. The dealer found one very close to our specs and made us a deal we could not pass up but the stock exhaust has to go. The wife says get better sounding mufflers on the car before we take delivery. Cool wifey huh? She wants to do track days! Little Italian so go figure!
I need to decide what mufflers to put on the car. The stock is way to lame. I have heard the PSE at the dealer and it sounds nice and not overly loud. The dealer also sells and highly recomends Tubi. Has anyone heard PSE and Tubi and if so what do you think is the sound differences? Seems like the Tubi might cost less and be super easy to just bolt up were the PSE you have to run wires to the dash and plug it into a button. I also looked at and listen to some Fabspeed mufflers on there website and they sounded nice too. My dealer does not do Fabspeed though.
A little about the car:
Triple Black (wife will not have it any other way)
Tiptronic
Sport Chrono
Carrera Classic Wheels
Full Leather Seats w/ smooth leather
Heated Seats
Self Dim Mirrors
Full Leather Interior
Power Seats
Bose and Nav
Any other suggestions let them rip. Before someone rags me about the Tiptronic I have to tell you all I have to have an automatic because I can not shift a manual anymore. I lost my entire left leg except for about 6" due to a motorcycle accident almost 4 years ago. A minivan took a left turn into me and t-boned me and ran me over. There is no way I can move my prosthetic leg to push a clutch....yeah it sucks but hey I'm lucky to be alive!

Congrats on the car Mike and where abouts are you? There's a lot of choices that's for sure... AWE, Tubi etc... Best thing to do before buying is to listen to a couple first and decide which sound you like best
I agree - go with the full AWE setup. I did before and after dynos and you cannot beat the sound, craftsmanship and power gains for the $$. It's like having the X-51 package at a fraction of the cost!
a word of caution --- had to get fabspeed removed soon after install in a 996 because of the relentless drone. seems the tip is happy cruising around 2500 rpm which creates a very annoying resonance in the cabin. I'm estatic with the pse, doesnt seem to drone when o,n and has the nifty defeat switch to calm the neighbors early or late in the day
Well the dealer tells me the Tubi mufflers only will be $2800 installed. YIKES...I see the Fabspeed mufflers are only around $1500 w/ tips and I figured install labor could be around $300? Tubi is way expensive but is it worth it?

installation is nothing, a couple hundred bucks....very quick on a new car without water rust etc....i bought mufflers went thru the whole exercise.....the mufflers are nice, no drone but after pushing the card hard now for about 2000 kms, get like an air blowing sound when getting close to redline... from the rear from one of them.....if i had to do it over, i would go porsche....unless you want more of a race care ruffle sound.....good luck
I have the PSE system and the installer wired a switch for me that allows me to bypass the cutoff or turn the system off completely. It sounds great but there are times when it's nice to go back to quiet. Do a search here before you pull the trigger because there was someone who was not thrilled with the actual power gains they achieved with third party exhausts/headers.

2thfixr, I've done a ton of searches and missed the thread about lost power with free flow mufflers. What brand were they?

If the dealer installs then I will get either Tubi or Porsche Sport Exhaust. If I do the install myself (how hard can it be?) then I will look further at Fabspeed and AWE.
thanks, Mike
