997 C compared to CS

I am debating on my next car (selling the M3) and want to purchase a 997(with aero kit). I just want to know if there are any major differences (besides hp, etc) between the C and the CS.

Is the CS that much faster than the C, on track?

thanx guys!

I'm assuming you mean C = Carrera, and CS obviously would mean Carrera S.

I'm not sure about the differences, but I'm pretty sure 30hp would make a difference on the track.

There are alot of standard features that you get with the S over the normal carrera:

Porsche Active Suspension Management (pasm), upgraded brakes with red-painted calipers, bigger wheels and tires, bi-xenon headlights, a multi-function steering wheel, simulated aluminum interior trim, and a silver decklid logo.

S models also have round dual exhaust outlets rather than the ovals on the base car. Inside, the gauges have aluminum, rather than black, faces, and the engine cover is painted silver.

More than the HP, the torque advantage of the S is what you'll notice most...

I too am in a similar situation. What about engine responsiveness and more importantly smoothness. Is one engine smoother than the other, particularly close to redline? is the power delivery peakier?

I bought a 2006 997 C2 tip last May, trading my 993 C2. The 997 was a revelation. Our dealership rewarded buyers with s full day at a local private track in August, where I began to learn about the 997 capabilities. However, truth be told, the next Monday after the track day, I was on the phone with my dealership, looking for a 2006 C2S tip in the same color and equipment, which we found and I traded for the following week (wife not too happy, BTW, but it's a lot cheaper, far less than 52% of net that a 26 year old female would cost in divorce court for this 52 year old, and frankly, more fun, especially at the track).

To make a long story short, the C2S is far more car than the C2, in all respects. If you can do it, go for the S. And, with the tip, you will turn faster laps and win autocross over the 6-speed.

The Carrera is very good, but there's really no downside to the S.

It all depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. The C2 is very capable and if you are just driving it on the street, I don't think you'd ever know the difference. Great engine, great brakes, etc. If I were not a track junkie, I would have gotten a base 997 without xenon, pasm, or 19s.

If you are heading for the track, then the brakes and engine alone are worth the price.

Read the latest Excellence where Pete reviews a base 997 Cabriolet. Great engine, brakes, and especially the 18" wheels and tires (debated elsewhere - the car is best with 18s...).

Ahh, if only Porsche would have sold the 997s without xenons, pasm, and 19s as standard and only charged $5k for the engine and brakes...

Nothing wrong with the regular Carrera. Great car. But get the S if you can.

Spoken like a true baller. Must have taken all day to think of that.
