Sports shifter still feels notchy

I like the sports shifter but even after 2500 miles still feels like shifting through notches. I miss the previous smooth shifting. I just wonder if that is something you always will give up for the short throw.

Not surprising that it is still stiff

I have the OEM Short Shifter. It is still a bit stiff when cold, but loosens up when warm. At 2400 it was very stiff and notchy. I now have more than 8300 miles on my 997 (7400 since I bought it in April) with at least a thousand on the track. It has loosened up considerably. But still when it is cold, going into 1st while the car is rolling. I COULD shove it home, but I just double clutch when going into 1st with forward motion. The shift is then silky smooth and I am sure the synchros appreciate it.

I like the tight feel of the short shifter and anything else feels loose and sloppy. But fair is fair.. You do need to warm it up.

I would expect that when the car has been standing in sub zero temperatures this coming winter, it will be very stiff when cold.

Hope that helps.

Get the cable adjusted.
It will not get any smoother by itself.

I went with B&M and it has been great. If you don't go with OEM I would recommend them. Quality product and no notchiness when shifting.

B&M will be a perfect solution and will save bundles of cash.

We stock it, and sell it every day for $199 (list is $279). Not what I label 'cheap' but a great buy on a great product.

Sport Shifter

I bought my car over a year ago with approx 550 miles on it. The shifter was very notchy. Hard to get into first unless I was stopped. (I really think this may be why the previous owner sold it). Once it got to 8-9,000 miles it felt great and still does at 12K.

What changed probably the cable stretched a little bit. Which gets back to a previous posters comment get the dealer to adjust it and save the time aggravation.

porsche short shifter

I had the dealership install a Porsche short shifter. It is very direct and quick. It is not a bit notchy- cold or warmed up. Like buddah.
