Valve spring replacement
Valve spring replacement
So the valve springs need to be replaced on the right side. I had the z flat bedded over to the dealer last week. Today the mechanic called and said that both sides would have to be replaced even if the left was fine. I am wondering will the engine ever be the same ? It is under warranty and all work is covered. I had the dealer check to see if there is a new double valve spring available from GM that is more durable. Anyone know of other problems with these parts ? My z has 22,000 miles and never ragged on. Thanks for your two cents.
unless one of the springs broke and cause damage elsewhere you car will be fine. if you want double springs you have to go aftermarket and then you void the warranty. just let them do it as many times as needed.
Will it ever be the same? Haha it's not like the engine is going to be psychologically damaged by this.
You won't even notice a difference...it's an easy thing to fix, you could do it yourself.

OK Ok . I was just worried. Thanks.
Agreed, go with doubles.

Why did one or some of them go bad/break? I have never heard of this. I know tons of guys that have beat the snot out of the stock engine and have about 30000 miles.
How did the spring go bad? Did a valve drop onto one of your pistons? That would require the head to be removed to fix that, and you'll have a nice score/scratch in the top of the piston.
Make sure the dealer doesn't scratch up your windshiedl wiper plastic. When doing the rear springs the tools could scratch up those plastics. If the tech is sloppy or rushing it would make a mess of the black plastics.
Good luck!!

I was told that the valve springs to be replaced are 'double.' They have been working with the VA GM rep to make sure everything is done right ( S can still happen I know.) I was thinking about putting a different cam in and maybe a tune while it's there. The shop manager has been cool about mods in the past with my Shelby. What would you guys recommend ?

Sorry I missed your question. I was pulling in the garage four days ago and heard a ticking sound from the engine. The rest is history, I called the dealer and had it flat beaded over. They assure me that the engine is fine and it's only the top end. Suggestions ?
