Thinking of making the switch...to the Z06.

My car is now up for sale and i'm seriously thinking of making the switch to the Z06.

From what I keep hearing it's a decent cornering car (VERY important to me..morso than dragging) and we all know that it has mind bending acceleration that is only match probably by the upcomming 997GT2.

As far as lapping it on a circuit...i know there are some owners on here..can someone please post up their opinions?

As a benchmark, i'm comming from a 996 C2 3.4L with a fair bit of susp work done to it, and I consider myself to be a fairly capable circuit driver.

My upgrade path is either: 996 Turbo (with a 20% chance of GT3) or C6 Z06.

Please post your experiences as far as daily drivability with the Z06 goes, as well as track performance VS. the aformentioned cars.

And lets not have this degenerate into a flame war of brand vs brand please.

Cheers

Its a great handling car. It does lack handling "feel", but this is more subjective than objective.

I would drive one before making any decisions. Awesome car but not for everyone.

I've seen their performance on the track and while they don't handle as well as what I'm used to, that awesome grip and power more than make up for it. Very capable car, and sounds like sex when it is full throttle down the straights...

Just get it, then sell it in a year and get a GT3. Enjoy them all. Nobody's married to a car, so get all of the experience you can in any that interest you.

Do your research on the corvetteforum.com

It's a great forum and there are only a few owners here, much better to get detailed knowledge over there. Having been a member since 05 i have come to really enjoy reading the forum.

I wouldn't count out the viper, at it's limits on the track, from what i have read it is comparable to the Vette though MUCH harder to go the same speed.

The Vette is really the perfect car in my eyes...except it isn't a vert. I sat in one for the first time last Sunday and was impressed with it, especially after reading they hype for the last 2 years.

You're best bet is to go for a testdrive as that is always the most revealing factor. Best of luck,

Josh.

The Z06 is the biggest brut you could drive. Acceleration, braking, and cornering. I've only driven a 996c4s in the form of exotics but this corvette would run circles around the pcar. The vette pulled so hard in the corners I had a hard time breaking it loose. I can tell you I would not want to drive this car as a daily driver. It has a very stiff suspension which works great in corners...but not so well on rough freeways, partly due to the ridiculously huge tires. The interior is the nicest of all vettes...but that is not saying much. The tranny is fantastic in my opinion and the seats are very comfortable. Let me know if you have any other specific questions.

I easily walked away from all the stock vipers on the track. The modded ones...thats another story. I drove a Viper on the track...and it may be due to the fact that I only took it around the track 3 times...but I definitely could not push it as hard as the vette. My $0.02.

Point in case...it takes a great driver to get the times out of a Viper. The Vette is an easier car to drive and great phenomenal times out of.

Also, 'walking' away from Vipers or any car as a matter of fact on a track doesn't really mean much, as you never know how experienced the driver is. We all have seen lotus elise's destroy much more potent machines...

Josh.

As BRIT said... you walked away from the driver, not the car. It takes someone with some serious skill to wring out a viper on the track. Hate to break it to ya, but get someone who can drive behind the wheel and it will make that vette look like a kuntmobile. Lucky for all the vette drivers, there aren't many guys who track vipers that are that fast.

Vette is very easy to go fast in, it's like a 360, the car makes you feel like a hero. Viper wants to kill you, but treat her right and RESPECT the car, and it will do some absolutely amazing things. You try to man handle a viper and you're gonna get biotch slapped all over the track.

If you need all the little traction control, abs, blah blah hand holding computer devices then go with the vette. If you really want to learn how to drive fast and be rewarded for it, get the viper.

I feel I need to defend my driving skills. However, I'll just say the Z06 is fun to drive on the track. Pick one up and enjoy it!

Here is a recent write up I did on a modded C6 Z06. Hope it helps.

I've got a Z06 and a Porsche. Love both. Two different beasts completely. The Porsche you could drive everyday and feel like you are in an exotic. The Vette you drive everyday and feel like you are in a daily driver.

I can drive the Porsche out to dinner with my wife without any probelems. I drive the Vette and turn into AHole Driver immediately. It begs to be revved and it begs to have the tail kicked out going around every corner.

Out of all of my cars and all the cars I've owned, the Vette is hands down the most fun car I've ever driven, period.

I dont know what you will do to the car but I heard in Car and Driver or Road and Track that the C6ZO6 got some subtle shock revalving this model year to make them less twitchy at the limit. I dont know how to read this though. A 996GT3 is twitchy to an unskilled driver and very responsive to a skilled driver so I dont know if they made the car less twitchy at the limit or brought the limit down a little.

I would love a GT3 but damn the C6ZO6 is tempting! What ever you get give me a ride!

Dr. Simby recommends a supercharger.

Blown Z06's are highly addicting. One could say they cater to "arresting" personalities.

Have they got the bugs worked out yet? I know the first few supercharged cars were blowing up like the 4th of July when they put any boost to them. That was a long time ago and havn't kept up since then.
