anything amiss with my tubi?

Dear 6speeders,

Installed Tubi last week on my 997 turbo tip, did a few runs averaging 70mph.. Fabspeed tips looked clean and shining. The next day, took it for another few runs on the highway averaging 110mph.. Tips turned black! This has nv happened before on stock exhaust. Please kindly advice... appreciate it..

Ron

my stock tips, the inside rolled lip part, collect a bit of black crap that requires a bit of elbow grease to remove. Im sure with high flow cats this is multiplied a bit which may explain the dirt?

MY FS tips are always blackened. I got one of those Meguire's polishing ball thingies that attaches to the drill to clean them (occasionall). They have a bit of a yellowed finish even them but I can't be bothered to spend the time to shine them back to the original chrome finish.

after a bunch of heat cycles yellowing of stainless is going to happen more times than not - and these exhausts see some serious heat from the turbos.

Here's what I do. At the start of every wash, before I start with the water rinse, I hit the wheels and tips with a ton of mean green (any degreaser will do) and the crap just falls off them when I wash/wipe.

Use ps21 total auto wash. It will strip wax, but will not harm your paint. Stay away from products like mean green near your paint.

Porsche Turbos are pretty notoriously backpressure sensitive... look at the setups turbo'd Ruf and Gemballa products run to get the right exhaust setup to get max horsepower. I had a Tubi on my Gallardo and that sounded great, but on a Turbo it's a crazy bit of engineering to get just the right thing. On Gallardos and F430's I think Tubi's are fine because they are art... when it comes to a 997 Turbo, I'd trust Germans more than Italians with engineering instead of sculpture...
