Mild Whistling Noise coming from steering

I have a 2008 Turbo and lately I've been hearing a slight whistling noise when turning at low speeds (I.e., parking lot). Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks
SZ

First place I would check would be power steering fluid.

I've read that too much fluid could cause this. Not really sure though; I'll check in the AM.

Does the sound go away when you press the clutch? if so it's the clutch accumulator.

Never heard too much making a whistle only a puddle. Check the pentosin hydraulic fluid in the rear to the right of the a/c compressor. Make sure the engine is running and that you check the right fluid level. There is a hot and a cold level. If the fluid level is okay then more than likely the pump below the reservoir you are checking is about to go. Please let us know what the outcome is...

It seems to subside when the car warms up. It is definitely a mild squel or whistle like sound when I turn the wheel.

It subsides because the pentosin expands with heat, this is also why you have a higher mark on the dipstick for "hot" rather than "cold." This also means you are low but more than likely not low enough to damage or hurt anything. The pentosin is not special and can be picked up at just about any autopart store. Get a good funnel and have rag handy since you dont want that stuff spilling all over the engine. I would drive the car till everything warmed up and then check the reading, add about a quarter cup at a timeor just enough to read movement on the dipstick, but make sure you leave the engine running while you are doing all of this.
