How to maintain GT2 seats

So after having the car a short time, I feel like I am beating the snot out of the leather on the thigh bolster when I am getting in and out of the car.

I push the seat back so I am not trying to squeeze in or out but I still feel like I am wearing it out bad.

So how do you get in? If there is no secret then how do you keep from wearing the leather to much? Or should I not worry about it and just replace the cover once it starts to wear badly?

If you're referring to the carbon bucket seat (when I had my GT2) I would hold the steering wheel with both hands and put my right foot in the car and put my butt into the middle of the seat while avoiding the bolster and then slide my butt down. I had wear on mine and took it one of my patients who does upholstery for high end cars and was told to have fun with the car and when the bolster gets super bad just bring it in and have the outer piece replaced and have more cushion material added. Hope that helps.

I have the GT3 RS carbon seats so have a similar ingress/egress type of issue that you describe, and I'm not a small guy either.

I think drsullivan's technique is pretty good. I actually make it a point to be cautious due to not wanting to wear out the side bolsters, but I can also tell you that my car is fairly high mileage by normal standards (60k) and the side bolsters still look reasonably good. Best wishes!

drsullivan, yes the carbon bucket seat.

I guess I will keep being cautious and not worry if it wears a little.

The car is at the detailer getting the tree sap removed...the previous owner used to park under a tree and it got pretty bad. We are planning on taking here out for a little photo shoot later today if the weather holds.

Papasmurf188 is infamous around these parts
I have been holding on to the steering wheel with my right and placing my left hand on the doorsill (not the paint) with the seats push all the way back. This allows me to get both legs over the side bolster but under the wheel most of the time. No my wife getting in the other side is a whole other process.

I bought the CF side bolster protectors from Sean ad they work great. I highly recommend them. They are made from alcantara and have an excellent fit and finish.

Seen Sean's protector. good stuff. but try not to sit on the bolster when u get in & out of the car. i move seat all the way to back like u do. the key is to use left hand on the door sill area to support the body weight so u're not rubbing against the seat.

I have 996 GT3 Euro seats in my car and have absolutely zero wear on them. These seats are actually deeper and narrower than the GT2 seats. The trick to getting into them without touching the side bolsters if you are reasonably athletic is this:
1. Grab the steering wheel with your right hand

2. Put your right foot in the car with your heel on the floor just ahead of the pedals

3. Place your left hand towards the aft end of the door sill slightly behind your body

4. Now support the weight of your body with the planted heel of your right foot in the car, your left hand braced against the door sill, and your right hand pulling on the steering wheel. Your butt will now easily clear the side bolster without any contact as you settle into the seat as you raise your left leg and place it in the vehicle.

If you do it this way you will not get ANY wear and tear on the seats.

Tried it today and didn't feel the seat bolster at all....thanks all for the help.

I did feel like I was doing the hokie pokie.....put you left foot in, pull your left foot out....

When getting in I put my right hand onto the center hump between the two rear seats to brace myself as I get in.
On the way out I use the door sill for my left hand as a brace.
