Exclamation Water Methanol Injection - Brands

Hello Everyone,

When I was troubleshooting my fueling issues I cut all the aftermarket wires from the frustration thinking it could have been electrical related (I know a bit silly but after a few months of troubleshooting you get wire cutter happy).

Anyways, Aquamist is out of stock and seems like it will remain that way for the next 4-6 weeks. I currently have my car at a garage working on new fuel rails etc.

I wanted to make use of this chance to reinstall A water methanol system, What are you guys running and is there any down sides to the other brands?

Some of the brands I found are:

1- Snow Performance
2- AEM

Would appreciate any input on this as the car is probably coming back home on Thursday.

Also if anyone knows if the above brands can be controlled through the syvecs?

I did consider ordering a new aquamist wiring harness etc, but the car has been parked for such a long time and I would rather refresh the whole system.

Thanks!

If your using a standalone, you could essentially piece together your own meth kit and the standalone can be triggered to turn the pump on at a specific boost pressure.

Check out devils own meth injection, they sell parts individually so you could get a meth pump, filter, and two nozzles, then use the oem windshield washer fluid tank as your reservoir.

I would wait for Aqumist. They have the best controller and atomising jets

That's what I have (HSF-3) . Aquamist if BY FAR the best system out there,..

- It Runs on IDC (load essentially) which is what you want
- Has fail-safes and a flow-sensor, so it knows when something is wrong and drops out your boost controller,.. protecting the engine
- Always maintains 160+ PSI of head pressure,.. and cycles an-inline injector to control flow,.. so the spray pattern is always perfect. Unlike others that adjust flow by speeding up or slowing down the pump,.. which means at low flow you essentially get a little stream of liquid instead of a beautifully atomized spray, because there isn't good pressure at the nozzle.

BUT,.. it's difficult to set up,.. and the instructions suck.

The only real support for it was Howerton Engineering,.. and apparently they got tired of spending all their time answering questions that should have been answered in the directions,.. so now they no longer will answer the phones or emails.

The manufacturer Richard Lamb is in England. He's glad to answer any questions,.. but the time difference is big,.. and he's not the best at clearly explaining things.

I've indtalleda number of Aquamist systems and I find them easy to install. Just more steps and precision is needed.

And as the prefiipr poster explained very well the advantages

great detailed response. I would make 2 comments...

1. IDC is not necessarily the best way to measure load. Boost, MAF/MAP, and IDC all work and all have to be tuned. The issue with IDC is that for the same power/load upgraded higher flow injectors will have lower IDC than OE lower flow injectors.

2. All/most systems have some sort of low-level sensor so you aren't totally in the dark about running out of meth. I didn't know know aquamist tied into your boost controller to cut boost - THAt is a great feature.

You can choose how biased the spray is. Towards boost or IDC. To full IDC or full boost biased and in between.

Aquamist has a fail safe feature that I've wired on my 997.2. meth is out means no boost for me. I choose it ti be this way since my tune is meth dependant.

There are a couple of ways to control the system. I know it can be done with boost (optional sensor I think),. or IDC, or even a combination of both.

Until 3 years ago,... if you installed really big injectors,.. you accounted for it in the meth system by also installing much bigger methanol jets.

But starting with the V.4 version of the HSF-3, (Fall 2015, Spring 2016 ish?) they started coming equipped with an injector scaler. It has settings of 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2.0

So if you install large injectors and now are only hitting 45% duty cycle,.. you can set the scaler to 2.0x and the Aquamist will run 2x that,.. or 90% when your injectors are at 45%.

My car sees a max of 56% with ID-1000's,.. so I have my scaler set to 1.5 x (or 84% at max load)

This HSF-3 V.3 does not have them. Green circle)

But this HSF-4 does. Red arrow. (Move the jumper blocks around in various configurations to select the multiplier you need).

At home I have a pic of my HSF-3 V.4 board which has the scaler.

The Aquamist comes with a float-level sensor for your tank (or theirs if you buy an optional tank like I did),.. and a light comes on when it gets low and boost is cut.

Also,.. if the flow sensor detects less flow than it is expecting,.. it also shuts down boost. So you're protected from that two ways.

It's really pretty well thought out (though the directions still leave a lot to be desired). Buy directly from someone that will support you. Howerton if he will support you if you buy from him (he won't any longer if you're not his customer (can't blame him)).. or directly from Richard at Aquamist.

Old thread but thought I may revive given I'm doing a 3.8L build with Evospec and By Design.
We're going the Pro-meth route.

Check them out if you want something really custom.
