What Car to Buy to Use Daily and Autocross?

I just returned from skip barber and got the bug to start autocrossing.

I am in the process of selling my 335i and want to get something that I can drive daily but still autocross.

Right now I am considering:

2003-2004 Porsche Boxster S
or
2005-2007 Honda S2000

I am working on a budget of 35k or under so any ideas or suggestions would be great.

Thanks

S2000 - it's cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, just as quick, etc. etc. I've owned a 2001 and a 2004 and both were great. Personally, I like the 2004-2005 with the 2.2L engine and no traction control/drive-by-wire. If you want the 9K redline, get a 2003 model.

Don't sell the 335! Keep the 335 and go open-tracking! I got tired of autocrossing. It's ok fun, but having to work all day standing out there on the track to get 4 minutes of track time just didn't do it for me anymore. And not to mention, at least in Houston, a lot the SCCA regulars are annoying as hell.

My take, 04 S2000 with JRZ's and 4.44 rear end with low miles, great track/autocross car/parts are cheaper, insurance is cheaper and in my mind faster then a S boxster with must lower entrance cost.

Porsche 968. 50/50 balance, light weight, good room for a daily, affordable.

Kind of hard to answer without knowing exactly how competitive you want to be. Will it just be for fun or will you be going after trophies @ Nationals?

Stock class or some kind of prepared class?

just looking to be a weekend warrior and have fun.
I am leaning to going back to an S2000 as I had a comptech 05 that I sold to get something more roomy. I guess I just have issues with making up my mind on a car and think a little track car would be fun for now.

You could always just do the miata thing for dirt cheap and hang on to a nicer daily.

If you could hold out of buying a car for a little longer the 135i wouldn't be such a bad car. Bmw says it should out perform the cayman S.

I'm a Porsche guy, but even I agree with the posters that say the S2000 is better bang for the buck. It also has some of the highest owner satisfaction ratings of any car period.

Despite that I think you might still be better off with the Boxster (if you like Boxsters) for one reason- PCA. Here in Norcal, at least, we usually have as many or more PCA AXs as SCCA, etc. And we usually get 8-10 runs vs 3 at SCCA, so you gets lots of extra course time. Add the schools, etc and having the option to run PCA is very nice to have.

If you like the early 996 they are great deals right now; I'd take one over a Boxster...

I am so torn! I am leaning towards the s2k for price and maint cost reasons but I am still watching the used boxster market very closely...the search continues
