DB7 Advice request
DB7 Advice request
I'm looking at a 2000 DB7 Vantage, ~17kmi, one owner. Any specific Pros/Cons with this year and model? Any help with what market value is for this car would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Research the DB7 carefully and call a couple dealer service centers about the model. I have heard the car is not very reliable but would be good to hear this from the people who service them.
These were/are beautiful cars that can now be had for cents on the dollar. If you find one you like that checks out OK, you really can't go wrong at the price you should get. Most of the money is out of them at this point. They are, however, old technology in that their basis is decades earlier.
Things to look out for:
DB7 Vantages are well known for having coil pack issues, ask if the coil packs have ever been changed. If one goes out it's usually a good idea to change all 12 coils & plugs as once one goes they all seem to fail soon after. Getting to them is a pretty big job as the intake manifolds have to come off, sometimes you'll remove a coil & the spark plug "well" is full of oil due to the seal between it & the cam cover leaking, the only option here is to remove & reseal the cam cover(s).
Also check all the vacuum lines that run from one side of the motor to the other, they often have started cracking & are generally in poor shape once they're over 6-7 years old. The vacuum lines come as a complete kit that is tricky to change, however if the intake manifolds are off due to the afore mentioned plugs & coils, it's a pretty straight forward job so I recommend replacing it while I've got it all apart.
They have a tendency to leak power steering fluid from the hose that goes from the reservoir to the pump. Sometimes It's just a loose clamp but often I'll replace the hose & it's plastic protectors.
Oil pan gaskets can leak.
That's the major things. Everything else is the same as any other high end car, they can get expensive to fix but if it's been looked after most of these & the other little idiosyncrasies DB7's "suffer" from would have already been addressed.
They are great cars though.
Enjoy!

Thanks John! This is exactly what I was hoping to get, specific idiosyncrasies to watch for. Sounds like some pricey fixes, if it needs them, but at 10 yrs old, it's probably good to get it done, if not done already.
Great information! Appreciate the heads up!
