a little help, please...
some advice about a quote i got for upgrade to my 2007 vantage?
i have a 2007 vantage that i want to kick up a notch. i was quoted around $7,000 by RSC tuning for the following: rsc lightweight sport exhaust, rsc high flow cats, rsc sport filter replacement and rsc engine computer remap. does anybody know if this is a good option and price? thanks, matt

That is pretty much the only options you have right now. Unless you went with a super charger. RSC is very good about customer service and their products are of excellent quality.
You can get a different exhaust and cats, but I think you will be real happy with their products.

thanks fellas. i was pleasantly surprised to see posts from you guys in particular because i have read many other posts and admire you guys for your knowledge and passion of and for the vantage. I understand they offer 3 different versions of their supersport exhausts: a quiet, middle, and loud. would you tell me which one's you have and the pros and cons. i told rsc that i take my girl out in the car and don't want it crazy loud, but that i want it louder than the stock exhaust. they suggested the "queit" system because when paired with their 'cats', their 'quiet' system will still be louder than the stock . do any of you have the louder systems and is it too loud? thanks, matt
I think I can add some perspective - previously tried 3 RSC mufflers w/ their 200 cell cats - one advantage of living in FL! I will try and keep this short - your engine is like one big air pump, you want to open the air coming in and going out (yes there is more but let's keep it simple for now and talk air/sound) 200 cell cats are much less dense than your stock 600 cell cats - thus let a lot more sound (and air) through. I also wanted more sound than if you pulled fuse 22 or disconnectd the lines to the stock exhaust - result gives you the sound you hear at 4300RPM (open) but all the time (have you tried this?). I also wanted to start to add performance, thus 200 cell cats - I started w/ the 200 cell cats, then the exhausts. Bottom line is I like sound but w/ 200 cells, I think you want the "quiet" version - they make a huge difference and quiet exhaust will not hurt performance. If you were sticking w/ stock cats I would say the opposite as far as sound. When I tried the 200 cell cats w/ fully open exhaust (first try in the series) - OMG - louder than most full-on race cars - forget having a date in your car - or hearing a cell - w/ windows rolled up! Sound posts on your PC do not give any exhaust justice IMHO. I settled w/ the quietest/200 and it still puts out some serious sound (Stuart - have you now made a quieter exhaust than mine?). You can also play w/ the back hatch cover (in/out) it makes things a little quieter/louder too (mine is out all the time). My wife and I have driven to NC and back - no issues or ringing ears. One other item is the RSC cats and exhaust are way lighter than stock stuff.
Stuart at RSC can also give you some thoughts - he is familiar w/ my car and choices too. PM me and I can give you my contact info if you have more questions. Hope this helped some.

Thanks Michael. That helped. Any opinions about springs and lowering the car?good or bad idea? Pros and cons? Thanks, matt

I think when I got my RSC exhaust there was only 2 options. I went with the quieter of the 2 options and it still sounds great. At this time I am not going with the 200 cats because I love the level of sound I have.
Have the springs sitting in my garage. They have not gone on because the install is so expensive. Just to put them on at the dealer is $900, and if the car is too low for my sloped driveway or I don't like the ride, another $900 to take them off.

Hello All, I've been on 6speed for the past few months and purchased an 06 Vantage in April of this year. I too have been thinking about getting the ecu upgrade from RSC, but I'd like to stay with the stock exhaust & catz as the sound is perfect right now.. Can any of you please tell me if the reprogamming effected your gas mileage, and how noticeable is the low end response after tuning compared to the normal factory programming?? Thanks- Rob
Neither the AM factory power upgrade or RSC ECU upgrade make the Vantage a barn burner at the low end of the RPM scale (as in throttle response) ... must be a function of the gearing and clutch/flywheel design. You just need to get your foot into the throttle. That said, the RSC tune does make the car quicker in the upper RPM. I had another Vantage person drive my car (his was a stock 4.3) and he said he felt the difference as he drove the onramp and out onto the interstate - I then told him what had been done. I have not noticed a difference in gas mileage - but have not actually recorded MPG either way for true facts.
Thanks- I was able to drive the vantage for about 3 weeks before putting it in storage, so when I had the chance I rode it out to about 4500 to just hear the engine and enjoy the sound(plus speed). I was hoping to get a bit more punch in the lower power range (up to 3500 rpms) with the reprogramming, but from what I’m reading most of the improvements are beyond that point. What range are you referring too with the Upper RPM’s?
Thanks Mike.
Thanks Mike.
I have the AM power upgrade kit and the difference over stock is substantial. The power comes on very strong over 4000 but it still has enough for me down low. With 12,000 miles now it might be loosening up but if "feels" faster than right after I upgraded.
I'm pretty happy with the car where it is now.
