V12 engine speed

Anyone know the peak engine speed and/or fuel cut off for the V12? I've searched online and I've seen 6500, 6800, 7000, and 7200. The red warning lights seem to come on (and fast) around 6000, which makes me think that 6500 may be correct, but it's hard to say. Also, I'm wondering if the max engine speed or cut off is gear dependent, as with the V8.

From what I've seen it's 7000 rpm redline with max power at 6500.

I've seen those numbers in online articles, but I've also seen other numbers that contradict them.

Mike, any AM insider information on this?

Isn't the rev limiter lower for the first few X amount of miles while the engine settles?

I thought so, but I'm over 1000 miles now and I have noticed the lights at around 6000 rpm since crossing the 1000 mile mark.

This info is correct.
There is a bit of logic that dependent on oil temp should allow 7200 in 3rd.

when in 1st or 2nd the redline comes around very quick. When rate of change of engine speed is slower, say in 3rd or 4th, slowly creep up past 6000 rpm - does the red upshift warning light come on then? - will the engine allow you to hit the 7000 rpm limit?

Thanks Mike. I will have to try this in 3rd or 4th. The last time I went above 6000 I was either in 1st or 2nd.

Okay, I just tested the car in 2nd gear on the highway. I chose 2nd gear to avoid getting a ticket while I'm focusing on engine revs. In doing the testing, I increased the revs slowly from around 5000 rpm.

In 2nd gear, the first of the red lights comes on at about 5800 rpm and the entire stack of red lights is on by the time you hit about 6100 rpm. When you keep going, all the lights stay on and the rev-limiter kicks in at about 6800-6900 rpm.

Does this sound right? I'm surprised that the window from the first light to all lights is from 5800-6100 rpm (only a 300 rpm span and well before the peak power at 6500). Shouldn't it be more like 6000-6500 rpm? I now have over 1000 miles on the car, so I would expect the break-in period to be completed.

According to the owner's manual, the maximum safe engine speed is 7000 rpm for a V12V.

However, the manual also states that the break-in period is actually 2000km or 1,243 miles (not 1,000 miles). Depending on how many miles you have on your car, you may still actually be in the break-in period.

Cheers.

When all else fails, read the owner's manual. Thanks, I'm still not to 2000km. I'll see if things change after that point.

Update . . .

Just to close this one out, I'm now above 1,300 miles and the red line and rev limit have moved to around 7,000 rpm.
