V12V on Track

Taking my 3 month old V12V out to the track tomorrow for the first time and was wondering if any of the other owners had already done so and had feedback/tips.

Will mess around and put DSC in both track mode and turn off completely for the first time, so that's embarrassingly exciting.

Thx in advance.

Sorry, I haven't taken mine out to the track yet. I do plan to take it to Road Atlanta in October though. Hoping you'll have advice for us.

Have fun!

I drove a V12V at Pocano. Be careful with the TS. I wasn't allowed to drive the car without it but the instructor took me for a hot lap and he went from the race setting to no TS and it was unreal; a very humbling experience. As he put it, this car was really built for race track. I had a great time.

That's great Jay. I haven't been brave enough to turn the traction control completely off, except to just check to make sure that I could. Seems like it could be a very expensive mistake to drive aggressively with the system off.

How'd you end up being able to drive a V12V at Pocono? Any tips on how to get involved with the next time their up there?

Aston has a great customer outreach program. I am a two time owner and I have a great relationship with FC Kerbeck. The sales team there has kept me in the loop for a number of events. It's a great benefit of buying through them. Steve, Eric and Joe have taken good care of me. This event was over a year ago before the car was even available. I was in discussion with Steve about a V12 and ordered mine shortly after. The car was unbelievably stable and as I have said before I was definitely the weak link in the equation. The instructor from Aston was a Brit race driver who was amazing and patient. He got my time down each lap with some simple hints. When he got behind the wheel, he turned the TS off completely, and I felt like I was in a jet. We were on the track with ferraris and Porsches. The same cars that were passing me, couldn't come near him. It just goes to show you what the car is capable of and how an experienced driver really makes the difference.

How was the brakes on the V12V? Did you just use stock pads?

Look for local car clubs. I know out here the local BMW and Ferrari clubs will rent Sears Point (aka Infenion), Laguna Seca, and Thunderhill for one or two day events. They often invite/allow other groups to attend. There are other groups that just set up track days, like www.yourprivatetrackday.com for instance. I'm sure you can find a few options at the tracks closest to you, or at just about any track you can think of. A few friends of mine from my Jim Russell Series days even did a 2 day event at Spa. How cool is that!?
