So what realistic car would get you out of your Aston?
So what realistic car would get you out of your Aston?
Ok so to start, if a 458, Aventador or Mclaren were even remotely feasible for me right now I would consider leaving my Aston. But seeing how the industry continues to make leaps forward in power, reliability and styling, I sometimes ponder what would get me out of my Aston.
Possible contenders for me:
- 2015 NSX
- Audi R8 V10 Plus
- 991 Turbo or GT3
- Nissan GTR Nismo
What would it be for you..?

I'm always tempted to buy a Ferrari, likely the 458 or a 430 Scuderia. Thing is, I just can't see getting rid of the Aston. Most likely, I'll just wait until I have the cash and the space for both.
I was having the same thought the other day... having now aquired my V8V.
I had an NSX for ~7yrs as my only car and it was GREAT.. Reliable and light exotic. The new NSX style wise does absolutlye nothing for me. Really too bad. So thats a non starter.
Ferrari 360 was a potential... But if it tracks anything like the 355 for maintenance as it ages... good luck funding the service.
I loved my M3 and 850 back in the day but frankly BMW doesn't make anything that I'd want right now. The Z4 is neat, but not cool enough.
My pal with an SL55 has had nothing but problems... Pass on the Mercedes at this point. C63 is cool, but not exotic enough.
There are a zillion 911s down here in FL, so I really am not that intersted... Fantastic performance from the Turbo, but again, just way too common.
The Maserati is slick, but wasn't 'small' enough for me sports car wise.
GT-R is too plastic inside... and not really 'great' looking...
The only other sub $90k cars that I'd consider:
Gallardo (prob expensive to daily drive but not crazy)
R8
Lotus Evora

Being a bit of a Honda guy, the NSX would be tempting. I know a few people working on it. Just not sure if it will be "special" enough for the price they will be asking.
Probably the only thing that would get me out of the aston would be an F430 scud, or 458.

I wanted an Aston for a long time, so I wouldn't give it up. But if I wanted more Soul I'd probably add this one.

There are cars that are more powerful and faster. Handle better and more technologically advanced than any AM but, none that are better looking in my opinion.
This will sound corny but, there is not a single car currently available that I would trade my Virage for. None! Would be embarrassed to be seen in an F-car, Maserati coupe is too large; convert down right ugly, P-cars are far too common (had 19 of them...), nothing from BMW, Audi or MBZ even remotely interests me..... What else is there? McLaren is certainly interesting but too much $.

I specifically bought my Virage last year because it was the only car that I really wanted. The only other car I'd be interested in is a 458 Spider, but I hate playing the BS Ferrari dealership games to try to get a build slot for one. Been there, done that. I am one of the first on the list for the new BMW hybrid sports car, the i8, that will launch this fall. Once I see and drive that car, I may decide to move the Virage.
Not a damn thing would get me out of my Aston short of a Pagani Huayra.
Ferraris and Lambos are waaay too loud (as in showy) ---> don't need people taking photos of me wherever I go.
McClaren is absolutely boring looking and the interior is nothing to write home about.
Porsches are dime a dozen.
Maseratis aren't common, but in a whole 'nother price league
BMW/Audi?? ---> You must be joking. If you think Porsches are too common, then what do you say about these cars?
AMG MB? ----> Just a fart can attached to a bloated cruiser that can't go around a corner without doing a 180
GTR/NSX ----> A replacement for an Aston? Jeezus, what are you thinking?

Know what I've discovered? There are lots of 'haters' for those that drive Ferrari's and the owners are the butts of a string of jokes especially from track junkies. Haters gotta hate and all that. But that never happens with an Aston - seems no one really has anything bad to say about that 'image' outside of an occasional James Bond reference. And that means you get a bit lower profile when out and about. Less people trying to race you with their chipped STi or zoom up to peer into the car to see what kind of cat is driving it. And I like the lower profile approach, I don't want to be the Star of the Highway and get all the small ***** jokes, et al.
So for me, I'm staying with Astons and they just got a '09 black DBS Manual in at the dealership that is torturing me somewhat. I must not test drive it. I must not.
I will admit that 50th Annivesary 991 Porsche made me configure it a few times on the website...but for what they want for that car new I can own that DBS....

I'm a track junky, and I actually admire what Ferrari has done with their cars....phenomenal technology.
Well, my history is that I do love Astons....have had a V8 Vantage and a DBS. Both sold for Ferrari's - first a 430 Spider and then a 16M.
The Ferrari is not as flashy as you think if you buy the right color. Obviously red screams, "Hey look at me!!!"
I've had more people talk to me about my DBS than my black 430 in regards to attention.
If you hate attention, then don't get an orange or Isotope Green Lotus. Of all my cars, these got crazy attention due to the color.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Aston marque, and nothing else appeals to me more aesthetically. But IMO, they are underpowered.
I am a true driver at heart, and love the direct steering input and feel of cars and for me it's Lotus and Ferrari - true racing heritage embedded in their street cars.....to each their own.
